LEATHER LAMILITE BOOT CARE

Hello Jerry:

Been wearing your Leather/Lamilite lined boots while out in the fields here in the southern US, heat index of 105 plus on some days, to break in for use in November mountain hunting.

Feet stayed dry as sweat passed through, boots were soaking wet. Even with lining, feet never felt hot in fact my impression was that feet were cooler than in unlined boots, possibly some type of evaporation cooling effect.

Purpose of email is to ask for information on proper cleaning and leather care. Saddle soap for dirt and wax for leather conditioner/polish still the best bet? Do you or the boot manufacturer have any products to recommend, or those to avoid.For sure don't want to inhibit moisture transfer.

Best Regards;

Charles

The above email was received today. I told Charles to do what he asked about and or use polish and the boots will continue to perform as he has thus far experienced.

What Charles has experienced and told me about I have not only experienced myself with each of the boots made for me with Lamilite, but I have heard the same for a number of men who have purchased in the past the Herman brand, Wellco brand as well as the Belleville brand. The difference between those brands and what I sell today is the fit and the fact that the soles can be replaced.

There is absolutely no doubt that the Lamilite made from Climashield continuous filament fiber is the key to success. The vapor permeable lining does not restrict the moisture from getting away from your feet. The Lamilite keeps the heat in the boots which is the cause of the moisture being driven out of the boots. When there is an abundance of moist vapor moving through the leather it is condensing in the leather due to the leather being colder than the moisture, however the moisture does evaporate away from the leather as the day goes on, but it never returns to the skin surface of the feet while the boots are being worn.

Maybe the jogging shoe manufacturers as well as the hiking shoe manufactures and hunting boot manufacturers will wake up and realize that they can make a better product if all they did was eliminate Gore-Tex and or Thinsulate. That maybe a pipe dream on my part at this moment!

I have noted and was even told today that the companies that market outerwear specifically Patagonia and Arc’teryx are now offering outerwear garments that have very high vapor permeability and they happen to be incorporating Climashield as their chosen insulation. So it is never too late for someone working at these companies to make the change to a better functioning product.

Maybe just maybe some of them are reading my newsletters and commentary. That maybe the reason they are beginning to think clearly about vapor permeable materials, and dropping the non-functioning Gore-Tex type of processed materials!
