CLOTHING SYSTEM

Wiggy,

As you know, the military has the multilayered ECWCS system for their soldiers. As you know, this system works only part way and many soldiers like it. I think the reason is that soldiers are really only worried about not getting drenched in cold weather. Most soldiers don't operate in extreme weather and have gotten used to the cold, clammy feeling you experience throughout the day. It is accepted as just "normal". Unfortunately, your garments AND SLEEPING BAGS are kept from them and they will not know how dry and warm a good night's sleep could be while in cold weather.

I have purchased two of your sleeping bags WHICH ARE OUTSTANDING IN EVERY WAY!! I have also purchased other products. I have "bent your ear" on more than one occasion, seeking out your advice for various things. I have always found you knowledgeable and eager to help.

I would suggest you make your own ECWCS system and put it on your website... similar to what you do with your sleeping bags and temperature ratings. You should incorporate every layer on top of the skin and show what temperature this will protect you to. I think if you do this, before winter, your consumers will have time to get ready for next winter and be well protected. Oh, many months ago, you mentioned something about making and having plans to sell a shirt that goes over your fishnet top. This would also be a part of your "WTDAW" (Wiggy's Truly Dry and Warm) line. I think it would sell, maybe if you come up with a better name for it.

Anyway, it is a suggestion. Keep making excellent products.

Chris

I did not have to wait long for another testimonial. Much appreciated.

First of all addressing Chris question about a garment to wear over the fishnets. I did order 200 yards to get started. Unfortunately for me and my customers the company selling the fabric never came through with a delivery, they were just nasty and chose not to even tell me they didn’t want my business. There loss, as I expect to find an equally good fabric soon. Will have it on the site when it happens.

As for the military clothing system, yes I know it has its problems but making an effort to council Natick is unfortunately a waste of time. In order to help the soldiers to stay dry and therefore warm in the field it is imperative that body produced moisture get away from the skin surface so the fishnets would be the best first layer to wear. The next layer could be the DBU and depending upon the ambient air temperature either the liner vest or liner jacket and finally the Barron Grounds Parka which happens to be similar to what is already a part of the ECWCS clothing system the Level 7 parka which happens to have Climashield. What I have just described will easily perform to realistically -10 degrees F.

The skin surface will be dry so the soldier will be warm. The heat retained next to the skin surface will easily as I experienced when I was lost will drive the moisture out of the clothing so the soldier will NOT get a chill or be clammy. Of course all of this information when applied to civilian personnel will work exactly the same.

Maybe I’ll take Chris suggestion and name it “WTDAW”.

Chris thank you for your letter,
