CUSTOMER IN PUT ABOUT ANTIMICROBIALS

The following e mail was received in response to my article about antimicrobial. The link is very revealing and for those interested (all should be) in preserving their health the article in Scientific America should be read. The article is about two pages and is written in layman’s language so even I could understand it.

Hi Jerry -

I've been following you commentaries on antibacterial products on textiles with interest. Here is a link to an article in Scientific American (an objective source if ever there was one) about the dangers of antibacterial products. Basically, they don't kill all the bacteria and the ones that they don't kill become resistant to antibiotics as well as the antibacterial products. So it seems likely that if you're wearing a piece of clothing treated with antibacterial products, especially ones like silver that only kill certain bacteria as your latest article said, the ones that remain will become more resistant.

Essentially, you're breeding super-bacteria on your skin from wearing these garments.

P.S. I had one of the early polypro long underwear shirts. After 2 days camping I reeked like I hadn't bathed in years. I just wondered what sort of environment it was creating for the "odor" bacteria to allow them to get so powerful so quickly. I decided it couldn't be good to surround myself with that much stink so I tossed it when I got home. I may smell of sweat when wearing cotton but it's nothing like the stench that polypro caused.

With respect to Scotts comment about the polypro which I shared with a friend he told me that he too through away his polypro underwear for the same reason as did thousands of others. He further told me he had the same retention of odor when wearing polyester garments from Under Armour (UA). I can only imagine if it happens with UA polyester it is happening with every other brand of polyester under garments.

The fact that this does happen apparently polyester may very well be the reason that the underwear or active wear companies are in need of the chemicals that might prevent odor while what they are in fact creating is a wonderful situation that promotes the odors. The long and short is a reality that these chemical additives are otherwise dangerous because I believe they do leach into the skin of the person wearing the garments.

My advice as to what to wear is simple; cotton, wool, viscos, silk or even the new bamboo fiber fabrics WITHOUT ANY CHEMICAL ADDITIVES.

If you happen to be working out during the winter months OUTSIDE the best first layer are of course the fishnets. With them on all of your perspiration moves away from you and if you are as you should be wearing a second layer of a natural fiber material as mentioned it will absorb and retain the moisture which no longer can touch your skin surface causing a chill. Also, you can launder it clean without any residue.

FOOTWEAR

I reported over a year ago speaking with a fellow named Eric at Bates Shoe division of Wolverine World Wide about sampling the Lamilite for their boots. He told me the purchase even if no charge had to go through their system. I gave him all information for the purchasing people to act. As of this writing I have never been contacted.

The other day I spoke with Ron of H.H. Brown Shoe Company for the second time in about 10 years. He remembered me I did not remember him although I did remember the conversation. Again it was about the use of Lamilite in boots. When I spoke with him this time I was armed with more positive information and suggested he go through the testimonials on the Wiggy web site so he could learn what my customers thought of my Lamilite boots as well as what the thought of Gore-Tex Thinsulate boots.

I suggested he buy a pair of my boots to see how they are made and also experience the comfort etc. of them. He said if I sent him some material he could make his own. I said okay give me an address and I’ll send you a yard. His response was I had to receive a purchase order even though it was a no charge sample so I could be in their system. I gave him the necessary information to pass on to purchasing. Like his counterpart at Bates that is as far as my information has gotten. In a year from now I am equally sure I will still not have heard from them

These boot manufacturers it seems to me do not like the customers who buy their boots since they blatantly refuse to look into what can be an improvement.

Warren Buffet owns H.H. Brown and I wonder if I were to write to him telling him he has people in his employ who do not give a damn about their customers he would act on it. Several years ago I did write to him suggesting he buy Wiggy’s and I did receive a personal letter from him as his secretary said I would turning me down, okay. The point being that he does respond. I am thinking about it.
