Pogies for Your Bike Handles + More Down Nonsense...

Introducing Wiggy's Pogies for your Bike Handles

Wiggy's Pogies for Cyclists + Bikepackers

(For those unfamiliar with Pogies, they are hand warmers that wrap around the handle bars of bicycles. They may also be large enough for motorcycles, snow machines or ATV’s.)

The Wiggy’s Pogies, in my opinion, are the best on the market. The insulation is the L-6 Lamilite. The lining is a vapor permeable single-ply taffeta as we use in all of our sleeping bags. Since you will be using the Pogies during the winter, you do not want any sweat from your hands trapped in the Pogies. The exterior fabric is the DUCKSBACK material. It will keep rain and snow from getting into the Pogies.

As you can see in the photos, I have placed a molded tooth zipper on the inside curve so it is very easy to place them on the handle bars. At the end that is closest to the steering column there is a shock cord with cord lock to close that end which will keep out rain, snow or wind. The pictures were taken at a local bike shop so I could ask the fellow whose hands you see if he had ample room to work the brake and gear shifter; he said yes.

They are extremely lightweight—about 4 ounces each—and can be stowed in a very small area. Based on what I have seen of other Pogies products, none is even remotely close to being as warm. That is because they do not use Lamilite. Like all Wiggy’s products they are machine washable, as I am sure they will ultimately get dirty.

The color selection is any of the DUCKSBACK colors.

The cost is $96.00 per pair, which includes FREE shipping within the lower 48 states.

Eddie Bauer Introduces The Evertherm Down Jacket, A Breakthrough In Down Innovation

If memory serves correctly, this thin down product was developed in Canada, is being manufactured in Italy, and has been used by the Bogner Skiwear Company in Europe. Bauer is a day late and a dollar short.

Bellevue, Wash. - August 15, 2017 Today, Eddie Bauer introduces the EverTherm Down Jacket. Insulated by an ultra-thin sheet of down fabric, the jacket removes the need for quilting found in traditional down jackets, eliminates cold spots, and provides superior uniform warmth in a lightweight, slim profile.

Eddie Bauer management has come up with their own name for what is a resin bonded down clusters which are sandwiched between two layers of urethane scrim. I showed this product in one of my videos as well. The soft hand of the down is compromised so it feels just like resin bonded polyester fiberfill. Also it will still get wet as all down does.

Powered by 30g THINDOWN™ insulation and a water-repellent StormRepel® Super DWR shell, the EverTherm Down Jacket provides warmth down to -15 degrees with moderate activity. The men’s jacket weighs an ultra-light 11.36 oz., while the women’s jacket weighs only 9.12 oz. Eddie Bauer is the first outdoor brand in North America to develop THINDOWN outerwear, and has exclusive rights to the technology through 2018.

Here I have a major problem and that is with the temperature rating of -15 degrees. of course they have a caveat saying you should be involved in moderate activity. But when you stop the cold does set in. the weights of these garments strongly tells me they are like primaloft garments meant for bone fishing in Key West Florida.

“Since 1920 Eddie Bauer has been an innovation leader in outerwear and gear,” said Mike Egeck, Chief Executive Officer at Eddie Bauer. “The EverTherm Down Jacket is a transformative step forward in insulation technology. It will change forever the way people think about down.”

At one time the Bauer Company was a leader in the world of outerwear but that is very much history. Once they were sold some years ago they became primarily a women’s clothing company and only in recent years has the new management concentrated on making products for the outdoor industry buyers. As far as I have read they have not been very successful, primarily because as I see it they were are trading on a name not good quality performing products.

Eddie Bauer, the man, was an outdoor guide. He pioneered the use of down as a method of insulation, and in 1936 invented the Skyliner Jacket, the first quilted down jacket patented in America. Now Eddie Bauer is revolutionizing down outerwear once again by eliminating the need for quilting in the EverTherm Down Jacket.

Big deal, down even back then soaked up water as it does today and EverTherm does the samething.

Eddie Bauer continues to work with world-class guides and athletes to build and test its technical products. The EverTherm Down Jacket has been tested on Mt. Everest, ski touring in the Grand Tetons, and alpine climbing in the Alps to perfect the warmth-to-weight ratio, and versatility, of the jacket.

“Perfect” the warm-to-weight ratio, how did they do that. They didn’t they just said they did.

“It’s the best jacket I’ve worn: it’s ultra-light, warm, and slim,” said Eddie Bauer alpine climbing guide Adrian Ballinger, who tested the jacket during his seventh summit of Mt. Everest earlier this year.

What would you expect the guy to say, I froze my butt off, of course not.

The EverTherm Down Jacket is now available for pre-order online at www.eddiebauer.com/evertherm and will be in all stores nationwide on September 24. The jacket is available in both a non-hooded ($249) and hooded ($279) version for him and her in a variety of colors. And like all Eddie Bauer products, the EverTherm Down Jacket is guaranteed for life.

Not cheap are they! Guaranteed for life, that is a good one, because as I see it wear this garment in to cold a condition you might have a short life.
