AN INTERESTING OBSERVATION

MISANTHROPE196413 hours ago

I've always worn the fishnets under a fairly close fitting layer of poly pro. The poly pro seems to wick the moisture away, and the fishnets provide a layer of dead air space, keeping me far warmer than the poly pro alone. Are you saying this is incorrect?

This comment and question was presented to me on the most recent You Tube video.

Sometime back I came across a fabric I believe would be a very good second layer to be worn over the first layer fishnets but the company that sold it chose for an unknown reason to me not to accept my business even though I was going to prepay them till they had some experience with Wiggy’s Inc., so be it. However I believe the company that supplies me with the fishnet material may have just what I am looking for. If not I will continue to search for one.

Now to explain why MISANTHROPE1964 is having success with his poly pro garment over the fishnets. He correctly identifies that he is warmer with the fishnets versus the poly pro garment when used by itself and the warmth increases when he adds the poly pro garment.

The poly pro is a synthetic material just like the fishnets being made from nylon also a synthetic. These materials are working in concert, both heat very quickly to equal skin surface temperature of 91 degrees F and neither absorbs moisture. As the moisture is leaving the body through its pores it is in a vapor state; vapor is a gas, so it flows through the holes first in the fishnets and then through the smaller holes that exist between the yarns of the poly pro. That moisture stays as a vapor (gas) and does not condense.

The following is an explanation of condensation.

“Condensation

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4b/Above_the_Clouds.jpg/200px-Above_the_Clouds.jpg

Clouds, formed by condensed water vapor

Water vapor will only condense onto another surface when that surface is cooler than the dew point temperature, or when the water vapor equilibrium in air has been exceeded. When water vapor condenses onto a surface, a net warming occurs on that surface. The water molecule brings heat energy with it. In turn, the temperature of the atmosphere drops slightly.[11] In the atmosphere, condensation produces clouds, fog and precipitation (usually only when facilitated by cloud condensation nuclei). The dew point of an air parcel is the temperature to which it must cool before water vapor in the air begins to condense.

Also, a net condensation of water vapor occurs on surfaces when the temperature of the surface is at or below the dew point temperature of the atmosphere”.

The heat coming from your skin surface if trapped by other layers of insulation will keep the moisture in its vapor (gas) state so it does not attach or condense on the surface of the materials surrounding your body. If the insulation over the fishnets and poly pro were in adequate to stifle the heat movement the moisture would condense. The fishnet nylon and the knitted poly pro materials are working in concert not to stifle the vapor movement away from your body and because each of these synthetics reacts very quickly to the temperature they act in concert not to keep drawing heat from your body the way the merino close knit wool long underwear does as well as absorb the moisture, which means it has caused condensation to occur.

The reason the poly pro is not near as good as the fishnets when worn against the skin is because they are closely knitted and while the material heats to body temperature quickly the close knit stifles the movement of the moisture. That is why it is important to wear a layer i.e. the fishnets with large holes to not stifle the flow of vapor (gas) away.

The human body is very capable of driving the moisture out of the clothing you are wearing if the primary layer of insulation is sufficient to keep your body produced heat within the garment. The heat has to be enough to keep the moisture above the dew point in order for the moisture to stay in the vapor (gas) state so the heat does its job to keep driving the moisture away from its origin your pores. When I was lost I was wearing my fishnets and a loose fitting cotton shirt under my Fossil Ridge parka with the L-12 Lamilite and as one can see in the photo of me on the horse my parka is white with frost. When I took the parka off in the cook’s tent I examined it to find that it was as dry as can be. This told me how efficient the Lamilite/Climashield is as a form of insulation. I know of no other insulating material that is capable of performing the way Lamilite/Climashield does. The fishnets and my parka saved my life working in concert as well as Rudy finding me. Had it not been for my clothing he never would have found me until the spring of the year.

As I write I started thinking about all of the companies that claim they have the miracle to somehow control sweat or as they like to say “moisture management.” Their efforts bring zero control and unfortunately for many people who believe them only to become disappointed with the garment purchased. They just don't get it moisture coming out of the human body cannot actually be managed, if directing it away from you so it does not affect you negatively then I guess it is being managed. So fishnets and Lamilite/Climashield are what you need to manage moisture. This also explains why anyone wearing a garment that is designated as waterproof and breathable always finds water the liquid version of water inside the garments they are wearing under the waterproof and breathable shell. Let us not forget the companies that pedal the chopped staple fiberfill's or the microencapsulated paraffin beads that keep you so warm regardless of how low the temperature is.

And imagine all of these companies are claiming that their material or garment will make your time in the outdoors more enjoyable; really? In my opinion these companies management is disingenuous with respect to what they project to the general public their customers about the products they market. I do not expect that a one of them will step up to defend themselves when they are in my opinion shown to make false claims about what they put on the market, and that is what I have been doing for years, demonstrating that the only place their products work is in the multimillion dollar laboratories but not in real life situations out in the field. Maybe I should expand my laboratory then I'll be in sync with the rest of them.!
