While we knew he had dealt with several health issues during the past five years, including prostate cancer, his death took us somewhat by surprise. He was a vigorous 84-year-old who led our business and worked with us until a few days before his death. Our employees were his family, and they share in our loss. He will be greatly missed.

As you, his loyal customers and readers, already know, he loved what he did for a living, and he took great pride in the quality, workmanship, and service that we provide. Especially important to Wiggy was that we continue his legacy of making the best sleeping bags in the world, and we’re prepared to do that.

Born and raised in New York City, Jerry Wigutow built his reputation for quality and service through his manufacturing business, Wiggy's. During his early career in the outerwear business, he observed others using inferior fiber as insulation, and he learned that continuous filament fiber was superior to all other insulation.

But he was also a true individualist and adventurer. As a young man, he left the business world and lived aboard his boat with his girlfriend, sailing from New York to the Caribbean.

He was also a student of Ayn Rand's writing and philosophy, Objectivism, which guided him in business and in life.

Settling back into the manufacturing business in the southeastern U.S., Wiggy designed and produced his first sleeping bags. Eventually, he moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where he developed his unique method of laminating fabric to his continuous filament fiber, thereby eliminating the deficiencies caused by the quilting method of other manufacturers.

Wiggy's greatest accomplishments were the unsolicited testimonials he received continuously throughout the next 30 years. He took great pride in knowing that he made the best sleeping bags in the world.

As the new owner of Wiggy’s, I am committed to carrying forward Wiggy’s legacy and ensuring we continue to serve our customers with the same dedication to quality and craftsmanship you have come to expect.

RESPONSE TO LAST NIGHTS NEWSLETTER

Jerry,

The only testimonial you need is from your customers like me. In 2006, 3 others and I were planning an unguided caribou hunt out of Kotzebue Alaska. I researched the best sleeping bags available and yours

were at the top of the list. I had your custom make 4 Antarctic mummy bags with 100-inch length. All 4 of us absolutely loved your bags and our outfitter commented that we bought the best.

I used to believe that down bags were the best, their advertisers did a good job. Hence in my rookie days I ordered an Eddie Bauer Mt. Everest down bag, the best he had. The brass zipper gave me fits from day one. It’s very heavy, bulky and doesn’t loft up well after being compressed. Your bags are so much different.

I gave my grandson one of your ultra-light bags for Christmas. He went camping with 3 buddies and they froze all night in their Walmart bags, my grandson said he was toasty while they were all complaining.

We, the consumers, are your best advertisers, we seek out what works and we seek out the best!

You, Sir, do the best and they WORK!

In looking back, I paid $260 for the Mt Everest down bag and that was in the 1980s. Your bags are such a bargain today with similar prices I paid 40 plus years ago!

You are to be congratulated.

Rodger Connor

THANK YOU ROGER

I’ve got an ultra-light I bought in 1997. 29 years and going strong. I’ve laundered it countless times, after every use. What an awesome bag.

Best Regards,

Don Kinser

THANK YOU, DON,

Getting responses from customers who read my newsletters is a constant increase to my knowledge of how they use their sleeping bags.

And of course, I enjoy sharing their stories as well with my readers.

One of the things I really enjoy is when someone like Don states that he has been laundering his bag “countless” times. I have said from Wiggy’s beginnings “when you buy a Wiggy bag you should launder it often when it is getting lots of use.

There are times as owner of a Wiggy bag says it is after 15 years of use it is not as lofty. I ask if it has been laundered as the answer is no, I then tell them to launder it and dry it in the dryer two or three times. They told me they didn’t know it could be laundered. I never hear from them again. My suspicion is they did what I told them to do to find their bag lofted again.

Wiggy bags are vacuum packed by us to supply these bags as well as the survival suit, I make for the Airforce under 20 tons of pressure and when taken out of the blister packaging the loft begins to return.

Years ago before I was a manufacturer I noted that the down bag manufacturers gave a large storage bag with their down bags. Why [?&91; because as they said, because you didn’t want to store the bag in the stuff sack which would damage the down. When these same manufacturers started making their Polar Guard bags, again they gave a large storage bag with the [so called&91; sleeping bag for the same reason, not wanting to damage the Polar Guard. And here I am vacuum packing sleeping bags made with continuous filament fiber, the same fiber that Polar Guard was made from.

Today Wiggy’s Inc. stands alone as the only company in the USA who sells sleeping bags using continuous filament fiber to make Lamilite.

Every brand of no sleep sleeping bags that comes out of Asia or Europe has chopped staple fiber fill which will lose its loft from repeated stuffing in the stuff sack you get with the bag, and you realize if you were foolish enough to buy one that it loses its loft very quickly. Of course, based upon my knowledge of fiberfill fibers when Dpont and Celanese were pricing them they were first quality. Today what is produced in Asia for fiberfill use is the cheapest they can make. Do not even think one of these bags can be laundered.

Enough said!!!

WHAT OTHER COMPANY MAKES A SLEEPING BAG USEABLE FOE 30 PLUS YEARS?

30 plus years and still going strong

30 plus years ago I ordered several bags from Wiggys to test out for the Spec Ops unit I was with. The unit decided not to go with the Wiggys bag much to my and several others dissatisfaction. Still have one of those bags and other than some fading it is still going strong. I was told later that the commander that decided against the bags wished he had gone with them. I have the best sleeping bag I have ever owned, and I have owned a bunch of different bags. You can’t go wrong with Wiggys

Unknown

I understand the writer is not using his name, probably because of his being part of Spec Ops. This is not the only time an upper command because the commander decided not to get a Wiggy bag. You just can’t teach STUPID!

TESTING SLEEPING BAGS

For years people have asked how my sleeping bags were tested or people would want to get a bag from me to test so they could tell the readers of their web site about Wiggy bags.

Those who ask I tell they have been tested by users in the field and the others are told to buy the bag, which they do not do.

In 1992 I believe I was asked to make a bag for use in Antarctic by the US military and the Russian military. They were going on a 2-mile square ice field [I do not know how best to describe it&91; that was now drifting in the Weddle Sea.

That became the field test for the Antarctic sleeping bag that we make today. It has not changed since inception in 1992.

Aside from the 32 Antarctic bags originally made shortly there after we received a call from the company that handles supplying McMurdo station with equipment, they ordered them and after a few years they started ordering the Hunter version Antarctic bag with the Nautilus over bag. They have several hundred in use.

Around the same time in the early 1990’s I was contacted by the US Airforce to supply the training base at Greely, Alaska where they do arctic training. They too have been using them for 25 plus years.

So, with all of these organizations using that same bag at the bottom of the world and top why do I have to test them.

Af far as the rest of the sleeping bags made by Wiggy’s they have been used by thousand of people in all temperature ranges and proven to perform at the noted temperature published on each sleeping bag or lower. I rate the temperatures conservatively.

The reality is that I do not have to go through testing on machines like the copper manikin or any other type of machines, nor do I need so called experienced outdoorsman testing my sleeping bags.

ZIPPERS

Last week a guy called and asked if I use coil zippers. I say no I use #10 molded zippers. He then tells me he never met a coil zipper he likes, and he has a light weight so called sleeping bag from a British manufacturer that gave him fits because the coil zipper kept getting caught in the fabric and eventually broke. This fellow ultimately ordered a Backpacker bags.

Historically when I was introduced to the sleeping bag industry it was 1968 when I was trying to sell the original Lamilite to the manufacturers because they were all adding Polar Guard to their line of synthetic bags. I was unsuccessful but I learned about the #10 molded tooth zipper that was used by all of them.

My first original bag has one in it. Years later when I decided to become a sleeping bag manufacturer, I automatically started using the #10 molded tooth zipper.

I wasn’t in business too long when I noted that the manufacturers were no longer using the #10 molded tooth zippers but coil zippers. I learned that people were having problems with them as was told to me last week by this fellow.

It has been 30 years or longer since these companies switched to the coil zippers and stayed with them regardless of the problems.

A LONG TESTIMONIAL BUT WORTH THE READ, JERRY

Wiggy's

I reside in CT/USA, and you may have heard that New England experienced two large snow events over the past two weeks in Jan/Feb (locally 13" + 7"= 20" snow in a matter of days), PLUS subzero temps over two weeks (wind chill varied minute by minute, -6 to -40 degrees F).

I use the Ventusky weather app, and one could ACTUALLY see--in seconds--how the wind and temps varied rapidly--white to dark blue, back to white, second to second--which I never saw in my life on a weather app!).

Anyway, I typically have to shovel over a period of 3 hrs total. Temps were -25 to -40 with a consistent wind chill effect. Things were getting dangerous.

My wife had purchased a glove brand from Amazon called UMEWARM (w/ThermaLite), adding that their online desc. stated toasty to -5. Not wanting to get Sweet Thing disappointed, I figured I try them on--BUT my fingers got cold after 5 mins of use (yes--5 mins!!). I went back inside and put on your Kodiak mittens, PLUS silk underwear, double layer waterproof socks, using bread wrappers, with wool cover/in sealed boots, PLUS orange hoody piece clipped at my chin. Nothing--and I mean NOTHING (no wind/snow/low temps)--penetrated to my body. I worked outside for at least an hour (heavy snow returned), but very likely could have worked three hrs. more, that's how comfortable I was.

I had been in the US Navy in Iceland for 11 years in the 80's, where I learned the principles of cold weather training (sometimes horizontally snows on one side of the street, in complete whiteouts--everyone & everything stops). Ever since, I have always been looking for complete cold-weather gear, and believe I have found unbridled success with your products! Yea, slightly expensive, but absolutely worth the price for continuous un-worrisome protections. My Kodiaks got a small slice rip in my left palm (edge of shovel), but (again) temps and weather did not penetrate. I'll have to tape it up I guess.

I work at a local ACE hardware store (think snowblowers, shovels, rock salt, generators, heaters, etc.), and have informed all my fellow employees, plus some customers, to access your website for advice and great products. They see me walk into work, and want what I have after trying on my hat and Kodiaks. A super testimony to what you provide!!

Thanks for saving lives--you should be proud!

Abiraterone Acetate [AA&91;

Have you ever heard of this medication? I bet not, until May 2019 when I was told about it.

That is when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

I went to the hospital because of a constant pain in the center of my back, spinal column to be exact. After many tests, x-rays, mri, CT scan, blood and eventually biopsy of where the pain was.

The conclusion was prostate cancer. The doctor told me my psa reading exceeded reading above 2000, something he had never seen.

Since the biopsy showed cancer in my spine I went through 10 days of radiation all the while I was given a prescription of 5 mg oxycodone pills [300&91; that I ate like candy 2/3 day after the radiation ended so did the pain and I have been pained free ever since.

When I was finished with the radiation treatments he started me on the AA pills, a gift from Johnson and Johnson because at the time they were $2300.00 a month. I took 4- 250mg daily. After the first month my psa registered 97.3 and my doctor said he had never seen a large drop ever, he was almost giddy telling me. After a year the reading was 4 or 5. After one more year it was reading less than one. He reduced my consumption of AA to one pill a day. I have been that way ever since because my psa is non-detectable. This has been the case for 2 years or maybe longer.

He considers me his miracle patient and will not stop my use of the AA because he believes the cancer will reappear. Fine with me.

After the first 3 years of getting AA from Johnson and Johnson it ended. My doctor found the pharmacy in the hospital could now get it for me since I had to pay for it, for $71.00 a month and now 6 months later it is $30.00 a month.

I am telling you about my experience with this drop in price and it should happen with many others.

As for me I still have my prostrate and I asked the doctor about 2 years into my treatment why he didn’t remove it. He told me once the cancer showed up in my spine it was too late to remove it. So I got lucky. I recently had a bone scan; I am cancer free in my bones.

Not every prostrate cancer patient can be prescribed the AA drug as far as I know.

My doctor has told me I am the longest cancer survivor patient he has. I am grateful to have such a knowledgeable doctor, he told me at the beginning I would live a long time, to continue to make sleeping bags, so that is what I do!!!

A MAKE MY DAY STORY.

The following phone message came to me on January 10th. We have been in the teens here, so Moab was probably in single digits.

I believe Lisa has the Superlight plus over bag.

“A hi Wiggy’s. My name is Lisa, I’m from Moab, Utah. My friend purchased a sleeping bag system for me, and I used it last night on the coldest night of the year. It is such a game changer for me. I am so glad I found your bags and you, I can't even express. I can't stop saying how much I love the system. It is the change for me because it's giving me so much freedom to go out there at any time a year and be warm. I've never been warm. I've suffered through it. I'm older, I’m turning 66 and the cold is harder for me. It's the 1st time you know, it's cold how you last night and I slept beautifully. It's just so static over it. And I'm thinking of you, I've so much gratitude for you creating this remarkable product. And if there's anything I can do for a testimony or whatnot, I’ll look on your website. I wish you good health, happiness, and prosperity. Thank you so much. I'm such a happy customer. I love you. Bye. Thank you, bye.”

I am always glad when older people take the time when writing

their experience.

I hope the start of the new year promising for all of you as it is for Wiggy’s.
