Alone

Watching last night, I saw two others using a Wiggy’s bag aside from Jodie. The guy from Hawaii and the guy from Ga. The chances of one of these three people winning using a Wiggy’s bag would be terrific.

I was also informed that one guy was using a snowy owl a down bag and was never warm. I am not surprised, here is why.

The ground several contestants said was my word spongy. That tells me it was like tundra filled with moisture. This is a very wet environment and I was told everything up there was wet. Any and all materials that absorb moisture will absorb the moisture and it will never dry. All of what you wear is forever absorbing your sweat so what you are wearing gets heavier. The down in the sleeping bag was absorbing the moisture from the atmosphere as well as the user’s body. The presence of all of the moisture was now absorbing the heat from the occupant of the bag.

Here is a quote from Jodie

“Thank you so much for the info! And yes, everything was wet up there. Also, I have your fish net jacket or sweater and I have your gators and I also have you boots. I love Wiggy’s. I will be getting more items when I get a chance. I also took your gators on alone but they wouldn't let me take the insulation part. I wore them and they kept my legs completely dry. Do to so many restrictions they wouldn't let me take the fishnet Sweater or the boots”.

Having read the list of items they allow and now hearing that they restricted Jodie from taking some items lets me know loud and clear they have almost no knowledge of how to dress for the cold.

It is no wonder so many contestants have problems and are forced to quit early. The people that run the show should use what they want the contestants to use in the same places as, if they were contestants and see how long they will last.

When I was lost the simple fact that I was wearing fishnet long underwear was the first step in my survival. In addition, I was wearing a parka that further allowed the moisture from my body to escape. I was wearing my leg jackets that protected my legs from moisture and finally I was wearing my mukluks to insulate my feet. Aside from my parka the Alone people would have rejected the other garments I was wearing. My experience is documented on the website on the home page.

If the Alone management wants to protect their contestants from the elements so they can really last a long time safely they should take the time to educate themselves so they understand what and why some garments work and others will not. They must also understand THE most important piece of equipment the contestant take with them is their sleeping bag. When all else fails their sleeping bag is their salvation. Of course, Wiggy’s is the only sleeping bag, all the rest are no sleep sleeping bags.

At this time as I see it the Alone producers are only interested in their rating and what could increase them. In their minds the action of tragedy and rushing to get someone back to civilization may be their thinking.

If they understood that contestants that are dressed properly for the environment will last longer because they stay healthier and it would certainly make for better viewing because the competition would be better.

Several years ago, a guy from Cortez Colorado came here to get outfitted because he was a contestant. He was comfortably doing his thing as a builder when he decided to quit the show because he missed his wife, not because he was in trouble in any manner.

I stand by my statement “if you are going into a cold environment of ANY temperature let me dress you so you will have the maximum comfort”.

I believe people who get involved on programs such as this one gives Wiggy's an exposure demonstrating why our products made with Lamilite are so good.

PS One reader yesterday sent me an email with a link to an online retailer selling a different bran of electrically heat garments. They too have thermally imaged where their heating elements are. Seeing that tells you where the heat loss of the jacket is.
