THE NONSENSE OF ODOR CONTROL
Noble Biomaterials teams up with Lenzing for new textiles
Textile technology provider Noble Biomaterials has partnered with cellulosic fibre producer Lenzing to create a range of high-performance textiles that use Noble’s silver-based anti-odour technology.
I know nothing about Noble Biomaterials but a lot
about Lenzing. Lenzing is a fine producer of non-flammable materials and may
very well be the world’s largest. I have and still use products made with their
fibres. The addition of silver added into the fibre for odour control I believe
is dangerous and ultimately causes more odours. Since the silver kills the
microbes on your body or in your pores they will putrefy. Dead material that
was alive does give off odour.
The collaboration will offer active wear brands “a more natural textile
alternative to polyester”, Noble has said. It added that the two companies will
be able to “provide an optimum textile blend for active-lifestyle applications
that can be washed less frequently and maintain freshness.”
You live an active life style that is to say you are
physically active. It could constitute any form of activity such as aerobics,
running, biking, skiing, etc. when you are actively engaged in any of these
activities you sweat and the clothing you are wearing IS going to soak up the
sweat. My question is, are you going to just hang up the garments and let them
dry to wear again, or are you going to wash them? My guess you will wash them
as much made with this fabric as any garment that came before them.
“Lenzing and Noble share a rich history in fibre and textile development, and a
deep commitment to sustainability,” explained Joel Furey, founder and chief
commercial officer of Noble. “We also share a vison of consistently innovating
new textiles and technologies that improve people’s lives every day.”
Once again companies are touting their commitment to sustainability, what a crock. Then this guy says they innovate to improve people’s lives every day, an equal crock. Their business is to make materials and then offer them to manufacturers who may use them. In order to do that they have to sell them a bill of goods. Everybody likes sustainability these days.
The crux of this article is to sell odour control and nothing more. Odour control is in the same category as waterproof/breathable, doesn’t exist nor can it be done. Another product I see advertise quite often is the cooling towel. I fail to comprehend how a towel the size of a hand towel can cool down a body as large as a professional basketball play by 20 degrees. More non-sense. They must sell lots of them to be able to run television ads.
The outdoor retailer trade show in SLC, UT opens next week, I cannot wait to read about all of the next best things to replace sliced bread.
It just may give me more to write about.
