I have been using this second layer mesh over the base Wiggys mesh. Over all this I just wear a simple and cheap long sleeve polyester shirt, and it works great for hiking in the sub freezing cold. Recently it was in the teens and I wanted to go for a hike and I decided to start off cold and with this basic setup out and I still found myself at times quite hot, and noticing I was keeping very dry and not once did I ever get too cold and the sweat was mitigated almost instantly. Stopping for lunch I did put on a lightweight wind breaker and I was perfectly at temperature until it was time to go hiking again, when I peeled off the wind breaker and was back to just wearing the poly shirt and these mesh layers. Overall, I find its quite a comfortable setup for an active cold weather hiking session and I simply can't believe these mesh base layers aren't more wide spread and known amongst the ultralight hiking community. I weighed my second layer mesh at a mere 4oz, my base layer mesh shirt was just 9oz, unbelievable! What a great technology and I'm so glad I found this clothing and best of all it's made right here in the USA. I've had issues with other wicking fabric and feel quite cold spots such as when I take off my backpack and feel a very cold spot on my back due to the sweat or cold forearms and underarms, but with these layers, I am just always warm all over and when I do sweat, I'm still warm and if anything, I'm actually feeling hot to the point where I feel like I need to open ventilation zips on my outer layer. Even my merino layers get cold when wet, but when I get these mesh layers wet, I'm just warm and comfortable and, well dry!
