Hi Wiggys crew,
The new site looks great!

Just wanted to take a minute and thank you for your work.

From the Antarctic Bag & Mitts, our beautiful white Fossil Ridge Parkas & Bibs, Mukluks, even the booties & other odds & ends…   these have all become my favorite things, because they’re the equipment depend on with full confidence.  Amazing warmth, breathability and comfort, rugged durability, washability, and the quality of your company itself, standing behind your products & even accommodating custom orders; there is just no one like you guys.

You’ve made winter my favorite time of year.  Now when it’s -35, I grab a book, my gear & snowshoes, head out wherever, and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air in total comfort.  I’ve used your gear winter camping & adventuring up into canada, climbing up/sliding down snow, ice, rocks & dirt, been blown across Lake Superior on my face in ice squalls and after the initial shock, even enjoyed the experience of getting run over by the freight train whiteout hurricane, completely warm & protected.  Somehow, this stuff shows no wear yet!  I don’t get it, but I love it.

I can’t thank you enough for the excellent equipment and your willingness to do custom work to make everything perfect for your customers.

Sincerely,
Pete Doering

Here are a few pics of places your gear has allowed me  to go...

Mr. Wigutow,

In August of this year I completed my Alaskan caribou hunt that I discussed in my first email back in April, 2014. During the trip, I utilized the Super Light bag that I purchased on your advice. I had the FTRSS with me but I did not need it! I used it as an extra sleeping bag since the Super Light was plenty warm; for short periods I slept with bare feet and was plenty warm. I was able to dry out most of my clothes just by either wearing them in the bag or stuffing them inside while I was in it. My buddies with cheap bags never could dry their clothes and they were miserable. I did not take your ground pad with me since we had an outfitter camp package that included (cheap USGI-type) sleeping pads.

I also wore daily your 9” socks and jacket liner. They worked very well in keeping me warm and dry. The socks were very comfortable during the 40-plus miles I walked while on the hunt. In the attached photo I was wearing the jacket inside out as 'tundra camo.' It worked well in that regard.

Anyways, thank you for the great advice and for the great products.

Posing with caribou

I think I bought my Ultima Thule back in like 1997 and it's still my go to bag in the winter time here in Colorado. Over New Year's eve I backpacked up Pikes Peak and camped inside Monty's Rock Pile just below Barr Camp. The temp at night was around 5 below zero and I slept toasty warm thanks to your bag. Thanks Jerry.

[Here's a picture of] your awsome waders at work. 3rd season on them and of course they were trashed by the end of last season, but a few patches got us through this season. They sure do make crossing streams with sheep meat on your back a little nicer. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

  1. String Vest(Fishnet Vest) British Military Issue Korean War Era Picture

    Wiggy,

This picture is from the National Army Museum in United Kingdom.

It shows a British military issue string vest(fishnet underwear top) issued to British forces during the Korean War era.

As with previous pictures click and paste:

    https://collection.nam.ac.uk/detail.php?acc=1994-05-348-1

The mesh design evolved over time to include cloth shoulder straps presumably for user comfort-gear being carried on the soldier's shoulders pressing down on cloth was easier than pressing down on mesh!

  2. What the Original Fishnet Vests Looked Like...

This is a picture of the string vest with better lighting and shows the type of weave /knot construction in the garment from a UK blog titled Through The Gaps! Newlyn Fishing..

    http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E5B_Mf3JPC0/Tb6hGyMHtgI/AAAAAAAAMKI/gNueNZ6VM1I/s1600/nhblog20110501-1410.jpg

From what I have seen on the web and Ebay the string vests issued to the British armed forces during WWII and afterwards were basically of this type. A thick cotton string was used in the design and the design allowed the wearer to move with ease...clever thinking without elastic.

Thanks for making fishnet underwear available to those in the know.

  3. The old-time String vests...Fishnet Underwear What They Looked Like

    Hi Wiggy!

Enjoy all the information on your site.

This picture is from the National Maritime Museum in the UK...it has a display of a string vest purportedly used by Shackleton:

    http://ftnews.firetrench.com/2008/04/string-vest-key-to-survival-at-maritime-museum/

Not sure if it was used by Shackleton but this picture is one of the older type string vests/fishnet underwear and what they looked like. Note the very large holes in the weave...this was definitely going to allow the sweat to evaporate as well as keeping an air space around the user's torso.

  4. Gore

I keep hearing about how great Gore products are, recommending head to toe, how it's a gift from God. I don't know, but I could never find the conditions in which it worked better then coated nylon. Maybe I didn't spend enough?..

Clothing as your first and perhaps only line of shelter. How we get there really doesn't matter, we find ourselves in conditions or circumstances, that are life threatening, with what we find on our backs and in our pockets. Maybe we need to put more thought into our clothing selections, or at least what we keep available. Very difficult to layer appropriately in a 3 piece, but nothing precludes a ruck with more appropriate options. My options all have Wiggys name on them.

I'm a nurse at a trauma center in the Bronx, and our ER treats environmental hypothermia all year round, the vast majority aren't homeless. Their just normal folk, that got stuck out in it, without the proper resources.

    Regards, Jim

  5. Kodiak Mittens are the real thing!

    Morning Wiggy's!
Wanted to write about the Kodiak Mittens that I purchased several years ago (they have tan palms). I've used numerous different glove brands over the past 3 decades, from living on Donner Summit, CA to skiing in temps to minus-5 degrees Fahrenheit (the wind chill was well below that). Hands down Wiggy's mittens are the absolute best. Using store-bought gloves (REI, OR, etc.), my hands would get cold. If the gloves got wet, that was game over for trying to keep warm fingers.
I've used the Kodiak mittens in cold temps, and while wet...and my fingers are warm, if not toasty. Yes, mittens are different than gloves, and before Wiggy's, I've never worn a pair of mittens/gloves that stayed warm while wet.
Another unique benefit is that the palm doesn't get stiff, and crackly, when they dry after getting wet!
    Keep making quality products!
    Regards.
    Chris (Reno, NV)

  6. Ducksback Urban Antarctic Parka

Rain or exterior moisture control superb. Interior moisture control same. Overall, a VERY worthwhile expenditure. However, even tho the sleeves have an stretch inner cuff, there's no way to cinch the outer-shell sleeve. ( Maybe a velcro strip?) Another nit-pick would be pocket-closures, or lack there-of. These are items that can added by the finished-product user, relatively inexpensively. As a person with COPD and heart issues (blood circulation probs) I just wish I had made this purchase ALOT sooner. At 1/2 the cost of MH, Marmot, C.G, etc comparable gear ( yes, They're down-filled-I get it), Wiggy's products could've saved THIS former Himalayan climber and guide thousands of $$$$, without the paranoia about down and moisture. A Sincere Thank You, and keep up the good work and excellent cust svc. -David from Washington.

  7. Wiggy's knee warmer is great!

I received my Wiggy's knee warmer as a gift from my son. He has used their sleeping bags and other items for a number of years. I was truly delighted with the function design and the thoughts put into making this item. The ease of getting it on the knee is super and the Velcro makes adjusting to your knee very comfortable. I have never used their materials before, but I can say that their Lamilite is both light weight and super warm. A great buy, well worth it. Job well done Wiggy, 5 stars.

  8. To wiggy's staff

I just recently purchased the super mittens and was really impressed by the customer service i received with my questions, as for the mittens they are exactly what i was looking for and by far superior to any i have seen in other stores, all around another great experience with wiggys thank you very kindly yet again!

  9. Many thanks!

i ordered Ultima Thule boat foot bag. it shipped very quick and already have i camped with it and in snow storm over CO it preformed just as described. i have owned other brand sleeping bags and been happy but this bag has raised standard for me as to what sleeping bag can be and should be! many thanks to Wiggy's and their smarts i will be a return customer.

  10. Just cant say enough about Wiggys Gear!!

    Jerry -

I ordered you Antarctic bag about week ago and just wanted to tell you thanks again for the really fast shipment! This bag is absolutely the best bag I have ever owned, and just like all your other customers I have owned the "BOX STORE" bags ,jackets, and all the other crap witch has never ever worked period, no matter how good they pitch the sale!! I will finally get a chance to get up to the hills here in Colorado and test this wonder full bag out - I cant wait! I love the e-mails regarding the industry, because it really shows your knowledge and expertise within this industry, and it also really lets you see how this is trending towards the consumer RIP-OFF! I plan on buying all of your equipment, as it will last a lifetime and I can hand it down to my nephew, or get him a bag and equipment when he goes to serve our country. People ask me all the time know about the Ducks Back Parka, and I proudly tell them where I got it! - WIGGYS!!!!!!

    Thanks again!
