U.S. COMPANIES RACE TO COMMERCIALIZE TECHNOLOGIES FOR COOLING FABRICS

That is the headline of an article in a European online publication. When I clicked on the article I was told I had to pay to read it, so it was not read by me. However I do have thoughts on the subject.

I do believe that the technology for cooling fabrics does exist and has existed for many thousands of years; just put the fabric in cold water and low and behold it is cooled. But that would be too easy for these researchers to do.

Everything that has been said today about a fabric that will cool one is and I cannot emphasize this enough is clearly B/S. But that is not ever going to stop these companies from dreaming up an advertising campaign for what they “believe” is a factual representation of their nonsensical product.

37.5 ACTIVE PARTICLE TECHNOLOGY

Volcanic sand and activated carbon from coconut shells, these two components are what make up the “active particle technology”.

This new technology according to them and I quote; “helps the end user (person wearing the garment) maintain his or her core body temperature in cool or warm environments. By maintaining the core body temperature the end user’s body is able to conserve energy that would otherwise be exerted by sweating and staying cool; they perform better because the body can now focus on the task at hand”.

They also show rainwear suggesting that their fabric will do what Gore-Tex doesn’t do. They claim and I quote; “Unlike wicking, where the body produces sweat and the fabric spreads it across a larger surface area to dry, 37.5 works at the onset of sweat, eliminating the wet cling of a garment that many users experience (in my opinion all experience). When the technology is used in a cool environment, the active particles reflect the body’s infrared heat, keeping the user warm”.

WOW! If this is the case why aren’t the 37.5 sales people going after each and every Gore, eVent etc. customer. Well that is because it doesn’t do what they claim and why would a company like Patagonia change from a well-known component that doesn’t do what is claimed about it with all of the advertising for a new product that will have to be advertised, etc.

I was thinking; if Bobby Gore, the owner of 37.5 the owner of primaloft and all of the other owners of the other bogus materials offered were to get into the same room to talk about their products they would drown in the own poop. None of what they have claimed over the years works!!!
