TESTIMONIALS THAT MAKE MY DAY

Wiggy, as a user of several of your pieces of equipment I want to tell you that I am already a fan. I have one of your Single person bivy shelters and have found it to work well, mine has the cover.

So, I am getting an itch to add more Wiggy’s items to the arsenal and am wondering what your idea of the perfect match bag is to use with that shelter.

A bit of history, I have a few of your Hunter Antarctic -60/80 FRTSS setups, wow these things are beasts and amazing. I have used these on your ground mats and never been cold while sleeping on the ground. I have also used them in an Oz Tent on a cot/stretcher where I used the bag as a topper to the cot and slept in the over bag on top of it all. Nice setup there, talk about cozy. But still think that I want to match up a bag for the Bivy Shelter.

I also purchased your Chukka boots and used with your included Lamilite socks and they work as you say, I have used those in Northern AK in -30f temps for short out and about tasks and my feet never got cold. They do feel a little weird, but work well.

I use your Stainless water bottles… perfect at a camp.

Anyhow… Love your products Sir.

Rick

How do you top this when it is the start of your day! Much thanks Rick.

FAKE NEWS REPORT

About two weeks ago I read in the guru publication of the outdoor industry “SNEWS” an article about the number of people who visit our national parks; it stated 10 BILLIONeach year. So I gave the number some thought, and wondered if all of the people who populate the world visited our national parks in one year and since the population is say 7 billion that means half of them visited twice.

Since there is a fee to go into the national parks I thought the revenues collected would be so large that in a couple of years there would be enough moneys in surplus to pay off the national debt.

When I read the article I wondered where the information came from supporting the number of visitors, but then I realized the writer just took the number out of the thin air. Maybe the writer is a mountain climber and has spent too much time in the thin air.

Unfortunately from my perspective the outdoor industry is flooded with people who profess erroneous information across the board on all things associated with the industry. They do not objectively look at anything. They hear something and if it sounds good they accept it and then run with it. The always perfect example is waterproof breathable materials that have flooded the market place for years. Not one person in the employ or ownership of any company selling the material or those using it ever questioned if any of the products actually worked, they simply bought into it and that was that. To this day you never hear anyone dispute these claims, even though nobody in the general public has found the stuff to work.

Today I received a call from a customer asking about rain gear because every rain garment he has purchased over the years has left him wet inside the garment. I told him there are several reasons for his lack of comfort. Today we know that the moisture from the body does not get out. The same holds true for any urethane coated material used for a rain garment. The companies that make these garments are so concerned with the fashionable appearance they make the garments close fitting. If they were made roomie the moisture would have an opportunity to move away from you. If you were to open the neckline the moisture while a vapor would move out of the garment due to the body movement; bellows action causes this to happen, but keep in mind the garment has to be roomie.

Whatever clothing you are wearing should also be loose fitting, but the companies making these garments use knit fabrics that fit like skin. The fabric restricts or slows the movement of the moisture so it builds up within the garment naturally. However, people in the industry will tell you the fabric used for these garments will “wick” away the moisture, but it doesn’t. FAKE NEWS!

Speaking of “wicking” action one would think that those who use the word would actually look in a dictionary to make sure they are using it correctly, but none in the industry has. Why is that the case, because the correct meaning does not suit their use of the word! FAKE NEWS!

There are a myriad of chemicals that are extruded as fiber or blended with chemicals that are made to make fiber that will somehow improve the circulation of blood in your body or cause your systems in general to function differently when you are wearing garments made from these fibers. The difference that you are supposed to experience is an improvement over the way your body normally functions. Not a single person that I know of working in the outdoor industry has ever asked how this can happen. The populous of the industry simply accepts the gibberish explanations that accompany the presentation of the product.

I chalk this up to a mass of people who have succumbed to education that does not include the learning process needed to think. “ALL THINKING IS A PROCESS OF IDENTIFICATION AND INTEGRATION”. AYN RAND; GALT’S SPEECH; FOR THE NEW INTELLECTUAL PAGE 125

What is evident to me is the fact that these industry people never identify anything therefore, they cannot integrate anything. Now for an interesting garment that is coming from Patagonia.

VENTURA, CA—Calling it the most effective outerwear on the market for short-term exposure to the elements, outdoor clothing company Patagonia on Wednesday introduced its new high-performance jacket specially designed for walking between the front door and car. “With ultra-lightweight fabric and a center-front zipper with an interior storm flap, this new jacket is all you need to weather those few steps to your vehicle,” said Patagonia spokesperson Brad Hemlock, adding that the waterproof outer shell was constructed specifically to withstand 10-15 seconds of wind and rain until the wearer reaches shelter in their vehicle. “With two layers of insulating synthetic down, this jacket will shield you from whatever Mother Nature throws your way during quick trips to the mailbox or while running the trash to the curb.” Hemlock went on to say that the company would soon be releasing a new parka geared specifically toward those who need to throw something on when they get a little chilly at the office.

I knew that they were creative at Patagonia and this is the proof.
