A USERS HISTORY WITH WIGGY'S

A HISTORY LESSON FIRST

Jerry...regarding the Sweater...

My first sweater of the sleeping bag taffeta nylon was purchased in 1998...once I started wearing it, I stopped wearing everything else... The style was exactly like the original military Bomber Jacket which is what I wore all through high school and college in the 1960s and 70s... but a LOT warmer.

For Christmas 1999 I bought my then girlfriend a Sweater...it was about 20 degrees out and each night we walked the dog around the bock before bed. All she was wearing on top was a light cotton spaghetti strap top. She could not believe she was not at all cold...

I continued to wear just about nothing but the Sweater for the next 15 years...it would be washed 1-3 times a year. Finally, the zipper gave out and I called and asked if it could be saved... I was told to send it in and few weeks later the Sweater was back with a new zipper....no charge.

The one drawback to the taffeta nylon Sweater was the wind... I could go out at zero and be warm but if the wind was blowing at 20* things would get cool fast. A lightweight nylon windbreaker over the Sweater was all it took to be warm again.

From 1998 to 2013 I had a Lab named Dusty...we took three 1-7 mile walks a day, every day, all those years regardless of the weather. The Sweater went on every walk that was taken under 40*.

Depending on the wind:

5-40*: Sweater only

-5-5* Sweater with Vest over the Sweater

Below -5 the Sweater with Vest over the Sweater and a XL EWACS Jacket over the top.

We were often out below zero but only once or twice under -10...only once at -20.

In the mid-2000s the taffeta nylon outer shell was replaced with Supplex. When the taffeta nylon Sweaters were closed out I bought one because I just knew that one day I was going to wear out the one I was wearing and wanted to have a backup....it is still hanging in the closet unworn.

I also bought one of the new Supplex Sweaters but quite honestly it turned the Sweater in to a Jacket. Not that this is a bad thing as the sturdier Supplex material is more fashionable and my estimation will keep me warmer by 5-10 degrees warmer than the taffeta nylon Sweater. I wear the Jacket whenever going out to dinner or someplace where I want to look just a little nicer...but the original taffeta nylon one still gets worn 90% of the time.

The Sweater has been with me EVERYWHERE I have traveled. When I leave the state the Sweater, the Vest and a waterproof shell always go with me. I have walked for an hour in the rain just to see if I can get wet and so far, it has not happened...so I can't imagine what the new Ducksback Sweater is capable of...

This morning it was -2 with no wind at 0600... I had not been out for a walk below zero for several years, so I decided to go with just the Sweater (that is now 21 years old and has been washed 30+ times) ...and was warm the whole walk...

The problem with having this garment is that I have two closets full of coats that rarely get worn....

Bob

As you can see Bob has been a customer for several years which I think is prior to 1998 when he first started buying from Wiggy’s the sleeping bags. He has told many friends about Wiggy’s for years and he tells them to tell me they heard about me from the “bug man”, why the bug man, because I used to have him send me 8 to 10-pound lobsters. He lives near the coast of New Hampshire and in New Hampshire there is no limit to the size of the lobsters they harvest. The big claw of one of these lobsters is bigger than my hand and I could almost palm a basketball. Regardless of size as far as I am concerned, they all taste the same if properly cooked. Now that I am single and older, I haven’t ordered any for several years, I may again soon. Bob is also a friend.

However, when he writes about his experiences with Wiggy’s products, he has sent in previous testimonials, they are always accurate and welcomed by me. I believe the more people who send me testimonials that I publish the more confidence people can have in ordering Wiggy’s products. Knowing what customers think of the products from what they experience can come from me but what would you expect otherwise. The independent thoughts of users of the Wiggy products is much more telling.

I cannot emphasize enough that the single reason that Wiggy products perform as they do is the proper use of continuous filament fiberfill otherwise known as Lamilite/Climashield. I am sure most do not know its original use was for bed pillows, furniture stuffing and bedspreads. Now that you know what its original use was and is used for you also now know it is a non-allergenic material. This is important to know especially when you buy a sleeping bag; why (?). because when you are in a sleeping bag which is a confined space you do not want to breath in the off gassing of chemicals applied to the fiberfill that is supposed to be insulation when you are trying to sleep in the wilderness. It is not healthy to say the least, and then the lining and exterior materials are also loaded with chemicals and they to off gas. And finally, there is the dreaded non-performing down which is loaded with chemicals and in recent times the down processors have added one more chemical or chemicals that make up the water repellent treatment. And they thought they were doing the potential buyers of down bags a favor.

TO SWEAT OR NOT TO SWEAT ETC.

Yesterday I commented about an article I almost read in the Feb. issue of “Specialty Fabrics Review”. The three companies you can look up for more information about the hair brained schemes they are wanting to if they already have about their products. They are as follows; MyantInc., MedTextra LLC, LOOMIA Technologies Inc.

I can’t wait for them to publish they have bluesign approval as well as the hoho (Hohenstein institute) recognition as they have all other hair brained products that have come about in the last 10m years, all using chemicals that are dangerous to human health but they could care less if the care at all.

For the past, maybe 10 years I have received phone calls and emails asking if my products were produced with this or that chemical. I gladly tell them no. but the number of calls and emails has steadily increased because more and more of OUR population has become concerned about THEIR exposure to chemicals. I cannot believe that I am the only manufacturer who is getting these calls, I am not because the callers tell me they have called many companies like rei of ll bean and they never speak to anyone of significance who MAY have any knowledge of what goes into the manufacturing of the product they sell.

Being a small company, I am ALWAYS accessible to callers asking questions etc. I have published articles and have on the home page of my web site information about chemical additives and the fact that I do not use and materials with chemicals added to the fabrics. It was very important to publish this information so people with chemical sensitivities would know they were getting a chemically free product.

The reality is these large corporations will NOT EVER publish anything of this nature. Has any company that sells “no sleep sleeping bags” done a burn test video? The answer is no, and you will never see one. What they count on is the next uninformed customer, well I do believe that the number of uninformed is decreasing, maybe not fast enough but it is.
