another mention about Lamilite socks

LAMILITE SOCKS

At 71, I finally drew a ram tag after 21 years of applying in Colorado. It would be a solo hunt, going out every day. I’ve used your sleeping bags ‘forever’, but only recently started using your clothing. Although I used multiple items, the two I relied on the most were your socks and Ducksback raincoat. I actually used the coat as a sweater underneath my camo parka. After climbing for a couple hours in the morning to get above tree line to glass at first light, I was wet and the wind was blowing. I would put on the raincoat, with my camo over it. Within minutes, I was dry and warm. Before moving, I would lay the now damp coat out in the sun and it was dry in minutes. However, I was most impressed with the socks. I knew the terrain would be rocky and much of it above tree line, so I was wearing very heavy mountaineering boots. On day 13, I was successful. It was a 24 hour day, with 18 of it hiking, running, crawling, but mostly multiple trips of carrying very heavy loads down the mountain. At the end of the day, there were no hot spots, no blisters, and my feet were dry. The rest of me may have been a wreck, but my feet were fine. Thank you for some great products.

– John

When I turned on my computer this morning I noted that I had received overnight a testimonial, and above is what I read. An excellent way for me to start the day! John many thanks and glad to know you had a successful hunt, as it made the 21 year wait worth it for you.

There are many materials that are compatible with water; cotton, wool, silk, acetate, bamboo, down as well as any other natural fiber; they all welcome the water by absorbing it into their structure, they love it. Lamilite and water are “incompatible” as is evidenced by John’s experience. Lamilite drives water away almost as quickly as it comes on the scene.

John learned that his sweat was driven out of his Lamilite lined Ducksback parka very quickly, he further learned that his Lamilite socks did exactly the same action, drive moisture away from his feet so they stayed nice and dry and therefore warm. The fact that he never developed blisters is a direct result of his feet being dry. Anyone doing a similar activity with a very expensive wool sock would very likely have developed blisters because his feet would not be dry but wet from the moisture absorbed into the wool and further more would have cold feet. John probably takes for granted that he is never wet in his Wiggy Lamilite insulated sleeping bag because his body heat drives his moisture out of the bag as it does all of the users of Wiggy’s bags.

While the Teflon film does not actually absorb any moisture Gore-Tex loves moisture so much that it traps it with in any garment it is put into. This is most noticeable in footwear as evidenced by the mere fact that EVERY person wearing footwear that has Gore-Tex installed in it has wet feet. When people wear those expensive wool socks the wool helps the situation by also keeping feet cold are also creating a very nice breeding ground for infections between the toes. So you can say that Gore-Tex and water try to be a very compatible couple.

Since ALL of the footwear marketing companies who may also be manufacturers have this in my opinion, an unhealthy relationship with Gore-Tex even though I absolutely believe that know that foot born moisture DOES NOT get out of their boots that are lined with Gore-Tex or any similar material but they just keep on using it. That tells me these companies have absolutely no regard for the millions of people who buy their product. More than one person has told me they haven’t had a choice for years and reluctantly buy boots that are lined with Gore-Tex.

I know that footwear companies know this because they have told me as much in conversation and if you scrutinize my news articles I have reported as such. I once called Red Wing and asked if they had proof positive that moisture gets out of their boots with their own brand of waterproof breathable and I was told yes. I asked if they could send me test reports and they said yes; I am still waiting, that was maybe 8 months ago.

The only way you will have at least dry feet in boots with Gore-Tex linings in them is if you wear Lamilite socks. However the moisture will still be in the boot. The only way you will have warm dry feet is if you wear Lamilite socks inside a Wiggy’s Lamilite lined boot. But that would be about as low as 0 degrees, the over boots or mukluks becomes necessary when going into lower temperatures.

I have published a significant number of testimonials attesting to the same results as John experienced with the Lamilite socks which I take pride in having created and reporting the successful use of them.

A TESTIMONIAL THAT CAME WITH AN ORDER AFTER I WROTE THE ARTICLE

I've used one of your bags for years, when I did search and rescue for the USAF, it was perfect. Guys had lighter, down bags. But they got cold and wet after a couple days. I was always warm. I've gotten a lot bigger around since then, and camping doesn't mean carrying everything on my back anymore. So, I don't hardly even fit in the old bag. Last year, I ordered one of these to use at base camp on an elk hunt. It was perfect. Now, I've got a hunting shack in Northern MN and I would like the rest of my family to understand the value of quality equipment. I know they will sleep warm in these, and the zippers will work forever.

Curtis ordered 3 of the Ultra Light  Hunter model bags.

Thank you for the kind words and the order.
