         ANTARCTIC BAGS

Will Never Sleep in another brand if I can avoid it!!!

Bought two Wiggy’s hunter Antarctic bags for trailer camping in Alaska during early May to do long hiking stints. One week in Denali with freezing temps and icicles in the mornings during a snap cold spell for early season on three nights.

Used a soft polyester sleeping bag liner inside the bag (not for warmth but to allow for frequent washing over multi month use).

Left Denali and went to Seward. We were NEVER cold. The long zipper is rather robust and has a beefy heft to it, it allowed me to moderate the temperature over a very wide range of conditions. The head “shroud” can be bunched up for cold snaps or left more relaxed for regular chilly nights.

If I can avoid it, I will never sleep in another brand. The zipper baffle (e.g. a baffle that hides behind the zipper run on the inside of the bag) is superbly designed. It doesn’t catch the zipper but fluffs up removes air gaps and drafts.

Previously, I only used the Wiggy’s super light (equally superb but different temp range than this bag).

INDEPENDENT SQUIRREL

Best bag on the planet

I have been hunting in Alaska for 45 years. I have tried all the fancy brands, all the lightweight insulations. This is the only bag I will use now. I bought it for survival bag only for my plane because of the weight - but after being in cold, wet weather one time with it, I will never use anything else. Humid, wet, freezing temps, it doesn't matter. I stayed away because of the price for years, even after my friends told me how good it is, that was poor judgement.
All the cold wet nights, shivering all night and exhausted the next day. I was a fool.
Best money I ever spent.

Almost daily I get emails from satisfied users of my sleeping bags.

Each of those sending these emails points out a new aspect of the performance of the bag; it could be the zipper or how a wet bag keeps you warm.

Over the years I have received emails stating the same things. Hundreds of people who have the same experience are supportive of what I said about my sleeping bags 35 years ago. It is greatly appreciated beyond what you can imagine. To say I am grateful is an understatement.

HEATSEEKER-CYCLONE

What ever happened to the insulation named “heatseeker-cyclone” developed by “the northface”.

About 8 years ago I read that northface was using a new synthetic insulation in their supposed sleeping bags, so, I purchased one at rei for $180.00.

I made a video of the bag as I took it apart to see this new innovative synthetic fiberfill insulation; heatseeker-cyclone.

They integrated chopped staple fiber [heatseeker] with continuous filament fiber [cyclone].

It is now 8 years later, and I have not heard one peep of a word from northface about this insulation, why? Simply put it did not work.

This synthetic fiberfill product goes on the shelf of all synthetic fiberfill products that preceded it and is joined by all that have come about since.

If companies that actually manufacture insulated products simply accept the reality that continuous filament fiber; Climashield is the best and only insulation to use more specifically laminated; Lamilite they would make better products.

Since the two emails I have received and published here are primarily about use in Alaska it should tell the U.S. and Canadian military’s what they should be looking into receiving for their cold weather sleeping bags.

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn they are interested in this abomination of a product as they are looking into the other abomination aerogel.
