AUSSIE SOLDIERS BEWARE OF THE SLEEPING BAGS YOU ARE ISSUED
A few weeks ago, I received an email from an Aussie company that deals in selling sleeping bags. The individual Terry told me that his company was now the company of choice chosen to supply numerous items to the Aussie military which included the Wiggy brand of sleeping bags.
He also sent me the specifications they wanted. My first concern was the temperature rating; 0 degrees F or -20 C. All of the rest of the specs were of little interest for me since I had no interest in applying them to my bag. Terry and I had two lengthy zoom conversations which allowed me to explain why I would not apply them. One being a draft collar another a zipper without a stop, etc. in essence none of these add on’s were on the original 10,000 bags they bought about 10 or 12 years ago. This is the reason I assumed they named the Wiggy’s brand of bag. Silly me.
This morning I had an e mail from Terry telling me the military had purchased bags from another source after they purchased mine and this “no sleep sleeping bag” is the one they want. I wrote back to Terry to never contact me again.
There must be a school that teaches people who work for the governments how to write solicitations for sleeping bags specifically [I don’t know about other products] that avoid making a product based upon knowledge of the product. They are all geniuses.
This solicitation was for about two thousand bags.
I am sure the bags they received after mine came from a factory in China most likely. I am also sure the insulating medium was chopped staple fiber.
The loser is as always, the soldiers, i.e., the grunts.
If the truth be known we were not going to accept the order because our sales are more robust than ever here in the USA, Canada, Europe and even Australia.
What is interesting is the history I have with the Canadian military. Several years ago, they contacted me about bags and I turned them down but they pleaded to have a skype meeting, zoom did not exist them. The up shot was to go with chopped staple no sleep sleeping bags.
Over the years I have been contacted by people in western Europe and eastern Europe wanting bags but when they are told the price they walk away from me. They always go for the Asian chopped staple no sleep sleeping bags. You see, these military supply companies just like in the USA go for the cheapest product they can get and say how good it is to charge a high price.
Charlatans one and all.
Kok and I are very satisfied with the volume of business from the many consumers and the special operations forces of our military.
