breathable and water repellent.

EVERYTHING IS BREATHABLE TODAY AND SUDDENLY

For the past to or three years I have heard on tv commercials for underwear that the underwear manufactures are now making breathable underwear. What have they been making for the past 100 plus years?

Ever since gore falsely educated the general that they had a waterproof “breathable” material the rest of the garment sellers latched on to it like a shark on your leg. Gore by the way has seen their best days of sales.

Anyway, like I said the underwear manufacturers have latched on to the term “breathable” and decided that they were going to make “breathable” underwear.

Aside from the underwear made for infants and toddlers as well as underwear made for aged adults due to incontinence the underwear sold for everyone in between is BREATHABLE.

The other day I purchased some cotton underwear made by Hanes that is breathable. I did not inquire or even look through the selection to see if the had any non-breathable underwear.

The reality is in my opinion the marketing people just think that the buying public is just plain old stupid to think underwear is breathable. Maybe the marketing people do not know the underwear they are wearing like all the rest of us in that in between is believe it or not breathable or better said vapor permeable.

THE NEWEST WATER REPELLENT

I read this week that Arcteryx and a Canadian university are working on a new water repellent that combines water and oil. They will not have any success, but it does not matter.

All water repellents have failed to work just like all of the breathable and water repellent materials were supposed to work. Why they do not give up is a mystery to me.

I have not purchased water repellent treated materials in at the least 20 years. All of the garments I have sold over these years have not used water repellent treated fabrics and the sleeping bags certainly have not use water repellent treated fabrics. We do use urethane coated fabric when we want waterproof.

Arcteryx is a marketing company and in their small minds they think if they can advertise, they have a new water repellent treatment that is chemically free they will have a leg up on the rest of their competition.

All of these large companies are scrambling these days as they see their retail outlets go by the wayside.
