COLD FEET
Winter is coming and so are cold feet. What to think about.
How many of you really consider having cold feet since you have been experiencing having cold feet every winter for the past many years.
The problem that you create for yourself is believing the most expensive wool socks that you can buy even if they are made of merino wool, they all do the same thing; absorb and retain the moisture that your feet emit. I wrote about this subject sometime ago. Feet emit more moisture than any other part of the human body and unless you are wearing sandals the moisture can evaporate away. However, if it is wintertime, you are wearing those expensive wool socks and most likely boots made with goretex lining and the infamous Thinsulate insulation.
You have set yourself up to successfully have cold feet. The wool absorbs the sweat and once it has absorbed as much as it can it passes on to the barrier of goretex and Thinsulate. The moisture is trapped in the boots and as it cools so do your feet, i.e., they get cold.
I do not know how many soldiers read my newsletters, but this is issued purchases one you should read especially if you have been deployed to Alaska. I know for fact that I have been told numerous times for the past 15 years that they live with cold feet. Just so you in the military know several years ago Natick Army Testing Labs issued purchase orders to 4 companies for 150 pairs each of their mukluks. One company bowed out so Wiggy’s made a total of 300 pairs.
Late in that winter I started receiving orders from air force guys for then. to say they were a success is an understatement. Years before I supplied 500 pairs to the 10th SFG based in Germany who were sent to Bosnia. They also had my Ultima Thule bags. that winter in Bosnia was especially bad, but 10th Group was with “happy feet”.
Now how to have warm feet. The first thing is your socks, they should be Lamilite socks. They have been available for the past 6 years and the accolades I have received in this amount of time is remarkable.
The sweat from your feet migrates through the nylon and Lamilite away from your feet. It no longer torches your feet’s skin surface as happens with wool which is always touching your feet. Therefore, the moisture cannot absorb the heat from your feet.
If you were wearing a leather boot made without the goretex and Thinsulate the moisture would be absorbed by the leather which would allow it to evacuate the boot. But having the goretex does not allow that to happen.
Now it depends upon the weather, which over boot I make for you to have. If the temperature is -30 degrees F or higher the product we make called “OVER BOOT” is all you need. If the weather is -30 degrees F or colder to say -60 degrees, the mukluk over boot is what you need. I have had personal experience with both items, and nobody can tell me they have something equal or better. Unless of course they are using Lamilite, which they aren’t.
My experiences were hunting and getting lost in a blizzard at 12000 feet, if you haven’t read it, it is on the home page.
Having warm feet causes the rest of the body to be warm. Blood flows from the heart down to your feet. If your feet are cold the blood flowing back to your heart has to reheat. However, if your feet are warm the blood flowing back to your heat need not be reheated. Having cold hands should be treated the same way. Wear Lamilite mittens versus those nonsense heated gloves. You want to keep your fingers against each other as is what happens when you wear gloves.
The mukluks and over boots have vibram soles so you can walk on any ground surface, they have zippers in the rear for easy rear entry.
Wearing Wiggy Lamilite socks and either of the Wiggy overboots if you are otherwise dressed for the environment, you are on your feet will be warm.
