THE FOOLISH SEARCH FOR INSULATIONS CONTINUES!!!

Gold nanoparticles dry Allied’s down faster

28/01/2021

US based Allied Feather + Down is using BioTech’s gold nanoparticle technology for a faster drying down insulation.

I guess allied has not had any success selling down that has had water repellent chemicals applied to the down, so they are trying “gold nanoparticles”. Not true, but they say what they want.

Expedry can help to keep the wearer warm, and uses less energy to dry, by using gold nanoparticles bonded to the down cluster, said the company.

The part of the down clusters that are covered by the gold do not get wet, so there is less of the wet down to dry. However, keeping the wearer warm is non-sense as is the use of less energy, what the mean not that they know it, is it takes heat to dry the down and human body heat is inefficient to dry the down in the garment. by the way I did not know “companies” could say anything.

These particles work to increase the evaporation rate of water at a molecular level, without the need for heat.

For this statement I would say I hope you are wearing waders, it is absolute B/S. You must have heat to cause evaporation, without heat there is no evaporation taking place.

It claims Expedry can dry 40% to 60% faster than untreated down and creates a continually dry environment inhospitable to fungus.

“It” claims, who claims the gold added to the down can without heat cause continual drying so must faster than untreated down and of course work to keep “inhospitable fungus” at bay. Has anyone ever heard this before as I have not, more B/S.?

Andrew Peterson, chief technology officer of FUZE Biotech, said, “Working with Allied on long-term sustainability goals allowed us to come across an interesting new area of study where we find that gold nanoparticles significantly increase the evaporation rate of water. This technology has exciting implications that extend far beyond the apparel industry.”

I think the company should change their name to FUZY BIOTECH. Andrew you have just stepped into an area of a product “insulation” that you have no knowledge of. This product will never sell so get out while you are a head.

PrimaLoft develops Cross Core with up to 90% recycled content.

27/01/2021

Insulation maker PrimaLoft is boosting the post-consumer recycled content in its PrimaLoft Cross Core Series – with one version increasing from 35% to 90%.

CORRECTION: primaloft company does not make insulation so increasing their blend of fibers is of no value.

The Cross Core platform fuses PrimaLoft fibres with aerogel, a highly porous, lightweight structure that is composed of more than 95% air.

If you think primaloft fibers are a poor representation of an insulating medium aerogel is much worse. The aerogel product has been around since the 1930’s I think and if it was so good why has it languished in obscurity since? Because it is of no value as an insulating medium.

Vanessa Mason, PrimaLoft’s senior vice-president of engineering, insulation and polymers, said: “When we first began experimenting with the idea of using aerogel in insulation fibres, our focus was on getting the formula right so that we were delivering a new level of thermal performance.

Vanessa you are in the same camp as chev groh who years ago thought she new about insulations: she did not and neither do you. Your experiment with the aerogel is a fool’s errand. It cannot work on its therefore it cannot make what you already have that does not work, work. You will not deliver a new level of thermal performance since you have no level of thermal performance to start with.

“Once we became the first to crack that code, we knew we needed to continue to innovate on the sustainability side and find a way to use as much recycled content as possible, while maintaining that performance.”

“The first to crack that code”, is that like cracking your head? Primaloft has never innovated anything since day one. They copied in the early 1980’s the same product I was selling when I started selling polyester fiberfill insulations in 1961. Using recycled polyester makes the poor quality non-performing product that you make even less of a performable product.

Available from autumn, PrimaLoft Gold Insulation with Cross Core technology blends PrimaLoft Gold Insulation with aerogel, using 90% post-consumer recycled material, up from 35% in the previous version.

Primaloft gold [do they put gold in their product as allied does?] with aerogel or without aerogel cannot be distinguished from one another and neither one is of value.

The stretch version now includes 5% stretch and 70% post-consumer recycled content.

All polyester batting have some stretch but not all use recycled poor quality fiber as they do.

PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Hi-Loft Ultra with Cross Core, for use in puffier jackets and sleeping bags, is available with 74% post-consumer recycled material.

I have not seen hanging on store racks primaloft puffier jackets and I have never seen a sleeping bag for years that contained primaloft: period.

PrimaLoft Silver Insulation ThermoPlume with Cross Core offers up to 12% more warmth compared with previous ThermoPlume insulation and includes a water-repellent finish.

12 percent more warmth than the paper used for toilet paper: period.

Brands using the Cross Core series include Mammut, Vaude, La Sportiva, Millet, Bergans, Haglöfs, Norröna,

Each of the brands identified is a European brand, not one American brand uses these various model names for the same product, in my opinion because they know the un-named polyester battings, they buy in Asia are better and far less costly. These European companies are possibly making their garments in eastern Europe and the primaloft product is made in Europe as well. The only reason these European companies use the stuff is because they get advertising dollars. They delude them selves because they can get Climashield in Europe which is far superior and of course it works which cannot be said of primaloft.

FRAUD

deceit, trickery, sharp practice, or breach of confidence perpetrated for profit or to gain some unfair or dishonest advantage.

It is my opinion companies that represent the products they make and sell using bogus science as these companies have are committing fraud and the companies that buy and use these products and perpetrate the information, they have been given by the companies selling them are also committing fraud.

In the case of allied down and feather I am of the opinion they will not sell this gold plated down product to any company and if they do, I will be very surprised. I am told down is getting more expensive and this gold-plated product cannot be in expense anyway. But since what they have published about its ability to perform is fraudulent because it cannot happen.

As for primaloft they have been at the bogus information act for years and incorporating the aerogel will not accomplish making their product work, not work better but making it work at all. They are a marketing company and represent the definition of fraud. As I have explained on several occasions over the years they never made as they like to say “an alternative to down” even though it existed for 20 plus years before they made their version of a chopped staple fiberfill product. And theirs is not as good as what existed.

I will leave the subject of fraud by saying the leader in offering a fraudulent product is and has been for 50 years: w.l. gore with their goretex.

Now for another wonderful testimonial letter.

My Wiggy’s gear review:

-I sleep with the Wiggy’s TV blanket over my comforter every night. I keep my room in the mid 50’s and have never been cold.

-My twin 9-year-old have stopped sleeping under their covers and began sleeping in FTRSS over bags. No complaints.

-I wear the Wiggy’s jacket liner under my soft-shell jacket daily. I have never been cold even while static in single digits with minus windchills.

-The only handwear I have used on a daily basis is a military ploypro glove liner and a pair of renegade mittens with shock cord which attach to snap-links and then to the mittens. This is the best hand wear I have ever owned.

-I have the insulated head cover but only use it when we have minus windchill as it is almost too warm for even the coldest Vermont days. It is however great for ATV/snow machine riding or static ice fishing.

-I bought the green booties and love them while I am sitting in the living room. If you have chronic cold feet these will solve that. If you wear them, you will have chronic warm feet.

-I replaced my felt Sorel boot liners with Sunwalker 2’s. I feel like I am wearing warm marshmallows on my feet. I also discovered that the Sunwalker’s make really awesome slippers for around the house. You can also wear them in your sleeping bag if you are camping and can dismount your bag to pee in the middle of the night while wearing them and then right back into the bag without having to put freezing boots on.

- I have yet to test my luxurious mat in single digits. I did however test it in 32-degree weather last year and was warm. I ordered the long, wide variant and never felt like I was going to roll off of it.

- My mom was searching for warm handwear this winter. She bought the Kodak’s and have not had cold hands while wearing.

- I also bought my brother and nephew Renegade mittens. The only thing I do with mine is install shock cord which goes up over my neck connecting the pair together and allows me to quickly don and doff the mittens and also puts just enough tension on the mittens that they stay put on my hands.

- I consider my Superlight to be MANDATORY equipment for me. I consider it lifesaving equipment. It is hands down the BEST sleeping bag on the market. I bought it in the long wide configuration because I am almost 6’3” tall. I bought the Coyote brown discount bag and even love the color.
