heating yourself and drying

MORE SUPPORT OF HEATING YOUR SELF AND DRYING WHAT YOU ARE WEARING

Jerry,

Got caught in a summer rain early one morning. My shirt was soaked. Came inside and sat down at computer and thought air conditioning would dry me out. After a few minutes I discovered I was not only wet, but now cold too. Got up to put on dry shirt and laid my hand on my Wiggy's vest hanging on the chair. Having read a lot of your articles, I decided to put the vest on. By the time I zipped it a little at the bottom I already could feel heat. Needless to say, in just a few minutes I was hot and my shirt was dried by my body heat as well as it would have been in a clothes dryer. And you thought there was nothing else your customers could possibly do with a Wiggy's product.

JOHN

John,

It is with great pleasure to thank you for telling not only me but the readers of my articles about your experience.

I am aware of this aspect of wearing a Lamilite insulated garment stifling heat loss and causing one to dry when wet. If you are wearing a Lamilite insulated garment and are doing work that is vigorous and begin to sweat much of the sweat will get away from your skin surface especially if you are wearing fishnets and you will be warm and dry.

However, if you are not wearing fishnets and the sweat is absorbed by the clothing you are wearing you may very well be wet, but you will be warm.

Normally when things become repetitive, they become boring. However, I have heard repetitively more and more often the same experiences of people who own Wiggy products and it is never boring for me to hear from these people. Quite the contrary, I am delighted or elated to learn from my customers their experiences with the products we make at Wiggy’s.

Seeing all of the new products that come onto the marketplace each season from the companies that serve the outdoor marketplace I read the wonderous things they have to say about their products. However, I never read reviews from the customers who buy these products. That is the reason these companies come up with new and as they say improved products. But, are these products new and improved; NO, in my opinion.

If you want the truth as I see it, most of the people who work in this industry “the outdoor industry” have little if any knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods. Those active today look to the past for their inspiration and do not know why what they are looking at is no longer being made. In some instances, such as down sleeping bags all they do is modify the way their end products look. For 50 or 60 years down, bags were made with the baffle sewing across the bag, now they have the channels going from head to foot. A new look for sure, but does performance somehow improve? no warmth isn’t any better, and water absorption by the down stays the same.

When was the last time you read about a products performance that was received by the owner of a company that he/she published thanking the individual for making the testimonial? If it happens, I am not aware of it/them.

There is a perceived attitude in the country that people who do something well should not demonstrate in some manner the pride they take in their accomplishment. I take great pride in what I have done and enjoy immensely receiving the accolades from each person who writes to me as John has done.

Much of the knowledge I have acquired over the years has been as a direct result of my customers telling me their experiences with their Wiggy’s products. In many instances I had to do the research to find out why they experienced what they did. While I know I had a great deal of knowledge about my products ability to perform and why (Lamilite), I certainly did not know it all as I do today. The incentive for me to do the research was because of what customers experienced and I did not know why, so I did the research to find the answer.

I have written extensively over the years about insulations and why continuous filament works and why the lamination method applied to manufacturing is the best way to use it and why all other forms of synthetic fiber are useless and you can include down in the useless product mix. I actually counted them which are published on the web site since 1997 and found about 175. If one were to read them all they would have the best education about synthetic fiberfill that exists and also know why continuous filament fiberfill; LAMILITE/CLIMASHIELD is the one and only fiberfill in the world for insulation, because it is the only one that works!!!
