I DO NOT THINK; BELIEVE ANYTHING WILL COME OF IT!

Last week I wrote about the absolute folly of primaloft combining aerogel with their fiberfill product which is the same name as the company. I noted that I called three companies to further my education of the product and the products being made from this new name for the old version of primaloft which did not work nor has it ever worked. I noted that they at primaloft are of the erroneous belief they have an improved product versus what they currently offer that does not contain the aerogel additive. They do not!!!

I also noted that I called the aerogel company that I believe is providing them with the aerogel, as well as bean who will be marketing the finished products to include sleeping bags and jackets and also the publicist for primaloft who wrote the article or at least one of the articles about this innovation, if you can call doing nothing an innovation.

Three days later I received a call from the aerogel representative which I wrote about. What I held back was shortly after I ended my conversation with the aerogel representative I received a call from a fellow from bean. His position was at the top of the customer service chain. In the course of conversation he told me he spoke with the people involved in the development or marketing of this “marvelous” new insulation before calling me. I guess he needed permission. He started to tell me about primaloft and I basically cut him off and told him I knew all about primaloft and its involvement with bean from the very beginning. I also told him who I was and the company I own which he did not know initially. He admitted he had used my bags 20 years ago. Yes, I told him bean purchased 12 of the Ultra-Light bags that they then wanted to return, which never happened. I guess he found out back then that he was using the best bag ever made for 20 degrees, we never discussed his use.

I told him that I was concerned that bean would have a new disaster with a primaloft product and I included the entire draw backs presented to me by the aerogel representative. I told him years ago when rei put the first effort by Mountain Hardwear making lamina named sleeping bags on their web site using a somewhat laminated continuous filament fiber in their bags that it would be a disaster based upon my review of the product, which I sent to a product developer I knew at rei. One day later the lamina bags were no longer on the rei web site. I further told him the new lamina bags were insulated with chopped staple fiberfill, which he did not know; he thought they were using continuous filament fiberfill.

I asked if he knew of anyone at bean had actually tested these bags or jackets, he either said no or did not know. Regardless I told him they would not work except in Key West Fl.

Now I also told him I though bean was otherwise a good company and would like to sell them my socks which could be worn with their water proof boots as well as sleeping bags. As for sleeping bags I told him I at one time offered rei my bags because I was told their return factor, this came from a rei employee, was possibly as high as 40 percent. I do not know how true that figure is. I further told him if rei bought Wiggy’s bags I would accept any returns they had and replace them with a new bag, but they turned me down.

He said that was a no brainer, which I agreed with. I then told him if they HAD a brain and used it they would not have turned me down. Of course from his use of the term leads me to believe he may not have comprehended my use of the term. He suggested that I speak with the people who develop sleeping bags at bean, to which I told him to have them call me. Why (?) Because I was not going to go through any unnecessary process. Therefore it was best that they whoever they are call me, and if we could come to an agreement I would give them an exclusive as a retailer of Wiggy’s bag. After all bean is a good company.

As of today I have not received a call from them nor do I think; believe that they will call. They will content themselves with selling $50.00 bags made in China and possibly primaloft aerogel bags also probably made in China.

Maybe things will change for me if I become a member of the “good old boy” club; not ever is that going to happen.
