LINER JACKET

Arguably TOO warm

I've had one of these for years, it was an impulse buy when I was in Grand Junction. It is lining a North Face waterproof shell that had come with its own fleece liner that was mostly useless.

This combo is insanely warm, and waterproof. I live in MO, winter temps do get below zero at night, I've never had a cold torso while using this product.

Great liner

Does exactly what is needed. Well-built and work.

Best liner I’ve found.

With weather and winds in interior Alaska dipping down below zero frequently, I found myself disappointed with most commercial liners as they don’t move moister away from your body leaving you cold if you sweat at all.

With this liner. Especially in periods where you have to work, and then idle, I have found I stay much warmer. I wear under all my army gear or zipped into the jacket. As a stand-alone jacket or under a vest it will keep you warm and windproof down to 20 or so (alone) and down to zero with a good vest.

– Nick

I initially started making the liner jacket and vest marketing them to the sailing market because these Lamilite garments still keep you warm if you get wet. Having sailed for 6 years and been a liveaboard for a years and a half I can tell you regardless of what the foul weather guys say about their particular garments you will get wet. But as time tells you the greatest number of customers for these garments has not been from the sailing market. I did have them for myself when I sailed and never was cold regardless of being wet. That was the motivation to make them.

The greatest number of customers do not use them on boats. They are hunters, backpackers, field workers, etc.

They are made with the same nylon as sleeping bags and L-3 Lamilite. The materials allow all of your perspiration while in a vapor stated to move away from your body, which happens while you are active. Once you stop and rest you stay warm because you are dry. [Nicks comment]

If you go to the liner page on the website and scroll down there are a large number of testimonials, I had no knowledge of.

The liner jacket weighs between 16 and 25 ounces depending upon size and the vest half that. They are not tightly fitting, and they are not supposed to be because they will not restrict movement. Actually, they are so light you forget you are wearing them.

For those of you who have Lamilite socks these garments are made with the same combination of materials.

Maybe those in the marine market will finally see the been fit of these garments on their boats.

Test for natural materials in extreme expedition

01/12/2025

Explorer Mike Horn has announced a new technical partnership with The Woolmark Company. Woolmark will be a formal partner for a new expedition called ‘What’s Left?’.

On this multi-year journey, the Swiss explorer will travel through some of the world’s most extreme and rapidly changing environments.

Of interest to The Woolmark Company will be to see how well merino wool clothing, supplied by French brand Ayaq, performs “at the limits of human endurance and environmental exposure”.

The partners have said they will aim to demonstrate that natural materials can meet the technical demands of extreme expeditions.

Merino garments Mr Horn will wear will range from next-to-skin baselayers to wind- and water-resistant outer layers.

Different phases of the expedition will take place in the Arctic, the Amazon and Patagonia.

Following the expedition, Mike Horn will spend time in Australia, consulting with woolgrowers to document animal care practices, responsible land management, nature-positive practices aimed at protecting biodiversity and soils, and the role of natural fibre farmers in the textile supply chain.

MY COMMENTS-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Woolmark Company just refuses to accept the fact that wool is as good as it gets to absorb water, once that happens if it touches your body the wool fibers with the aid of the water they have absorbed will draw heat from your body non-stop causing you to get colder and colder until you take off the garments and dry your self.  Mr.Horn will find out very quickly what happens when he is wearing the next-to-skin base layers that are made of wool. He happens to be a sailor and a lot of his activity will be on his boat.

This expedition is supposed to help not only increase sales for the French company but to develop sales of wool products made by other manufacturers who service the outdoor garment manufacturers.

They will find that wool products do not meet the demands of extreme conditions and the limits of human endurance. Wearing wool garments will definitely demonsrate how they will limit humans endurance by surronding themselves in ice ladden clothing as a result in arctic conditions.

Maybe these Woolmark people should look up Will Steger WHO journeyed to the top of the world starting May 1986 and what he experienced with the retention of water in arctic conditions.

What the Woolmark Company people is going on a fools errand, and can be dangerous for people. Use wool to make fine clothing.
