COLD WEATHER GEAR ?

THE AXIOS LAYERING SYSTEM

The AXIOS clothing system is the most complete, technical survival clothing system ever developed to support your mission. The seven layer AXIOS system uses the most advanced fabrics currently available, offering a Berry Compliant synthetic clothing system of uncompromised quality and integrity. The system incorporates both active and static subsystems, fusing them into one synergistic survival clothing system. The AXIOS system breathes incredibly well, dries very fast and is designed to work with the user and their gear from -40°F to 45°F. This offers the customer unparalleled freedom to adapt their clothing system to dynamic environmental conditions and mission sets. Everything about the AXIOS system is geared toward comfort and functionality to help achieve mission success.

What you have just read I took directly from the Beyond Clothing web site which is in the military category. -40F is nothing less than flat out a dangerous temperature to be in when wearing their clothing.

I had no knowledge of this company until today when I read that Fort Drum had put a solicitation for “cold weather gear” so I checked it out. All of what is being asked for seems to be rain gear and the gear of choice is “beyond clothing” so I went to their web site to learn about them. What I could not find is a name of the person (s) who owns the company which if it did exist might have a history of his background in the textile business and why he chose to start this company. So I guess no one actually owns the company. I would also imagine someone who produces such products would take pride in their performance. However, I think this person (s) don’t want you to know who they are because from what I read on their site I know they have no particular knowledge of materials and how they function specifically when you are making clothing that you claim will keep people warm at – 40 F. What I reprinted is utter nonsense.

From what I read about their axios layering system they start out with a very close knit base layer. This base layer is guaranteed to keep 100 percent of body produced moisture on the skin surface. Then there are a series of additional layers of close knit garments. When you wear a close knit garment over s close knit garment the fabrics cling to each other restricting movement. I also noted that these garments are very form fitting. The chance that moisture will work its way out of these garments is nil.

Most of their jackets that are noted as cold weather jackets contain the material from Polartec called “alpha insulation” which I believe is a material that is brushed or napped on both side causing it to have greater bulk. -40 F is a joke or pipe dream on their part. Polartec has absolutely zero knowledge of insulation, but they like gore and primaloft want to sway you into thinking that they are in the insulation business, they are not, never have been and never will be and in my opinion what they sell is dangerous in cold weather conditions.

They claim incorrectly so that all of these layers individually I guess and or combined will breathe, as if they are alive. Unless the people who own this company have bodies that work differently than you or I they have ignored the fact that their getup will trap ALL of the body produced moisture period and the wearer of this system will get a sever chill and if the temperature if below the freezing point long enough, +32 degrees F the person is in danger of hypothermia. Since they are selling this outfit I believe they have never used it in the conditions they reference.

So far the army solicitation for "cold weather arctic gear" also has only shown a rain suit and no insulated products. Everyone is interested in Arctic clothing but as far as I have read that is not what they are asking for, only rain gear.

If you go to the search box on their web site and ask who owns the company you get “no results”. If nobody owns the company who do you contact if you have a complaint (?) nobody! So there is no one to take responsibility.

And of course they show the ever popular non-functioning rain garments made from goretex laminated fabric. Another indication that they have zippo knowledge of materials or they are just satisfied to promote the greatest lie ever perpetrated by the textile industry because they may actually believe the lie themselves.

It is very disconcerting for me to read about the various products that are now being made that in reality do not work as advertised. It is particularly disconcerting to learn that our military has been hoodwinked by companies whose products can be non-performing for our soldiers. It is as if these people were conspiring to deliver product to the military that simply has no chance of working.

The biggest single problem is and always has been getting rid of water produced by the human body and they all have an answer to that question but their answers never work.

It is very painful to know that so many companies show no regard for the general public at large and military personnel as well.
