survival and operations.

than one item, so they are not forced to choose one. Sizes/colors will be
discussed after award of contract. NOTE: Looking for sleeping bags to be
delivered by mid-April.]
The “mountaineering experts” who vetted these sleeping bags never used them and if so, it was in a protected shelter with heat. All of the bags listed are down filled and I could care less what anyone says there are no down filled bags that will work more than two days at zero degrees if that much in the mountains in a tent on a ground pad.
All of these bags are made in China, so they are not Berry Amendment compliant or meet the Made in USA Act. But when the solicitor was told the he said he didn’t care. in my knowledgeable opinion he doesn’t care about the 20 guys who would be issued these bags. He doesn’t care if the freeze their butts.
I think it is interesting that they are not concerned about colors. Why because they are available in a variety of colors and those asking already contacted the companies. They will also take a variety of brands if necessary. This is the first time I have ever heard of a situation like this. Under normal conditions the buyers want ALL of the product to come from a single source. When the big army orders a few hundred thousand they often give the order to two to four contractors, but when it comes to 20 items, they want one source or should.
My representative asked them why they didn’t list Wiggy’s a USA manufacturer who is completely Berry Amendment and Made in USA Act compliant. They said it could be offered. My opinion is they already know what they are going to buy.
Startup makes shape-shifting jacket prototype
February 24th, 2020 / By: IFAI / What's New?
Startup company Skyscrape plans to makes clothing that naturally adapts to the temperature of both the wearer and the environment with yarn that changes shape as temperatures change, becoming thicker as temperatures drop, which provides more insulation and comfort to the wearer.
The skyscape’s people who you will see in the video if you click on the link have as much knowledge as will fit in the proverbial gnat’s butt of insulation.
The company reports that active yarns in the fabric expand and contract and, in the process, bend, which increases or decreases the thickness of the fabric. The fabric itself acts as a thermometer, without wires or sensors.
Just like the goretex breathing; i.e. it has lungs? Now we have a fabric that acts as a thermometer, incredible. But when you look at the video it shows the fabric supposedly developing channels but there is nothing in the channels except air and without something like Lamilite/Climashield taking up that space trapping the air there is no insulation.
The team of researchers, designers, engineers, weavers and knitters has incorporated their knowledge gained from the small swatches woven by hand on a loom into a prototype jacket. The active fabric jacket prototype is designed as outerwear for the city. Skyscrape is finalizing designs for a 2020 product launch.
I have been in this business for 50 plus years and have never known of the need for “researchers, designers, engineers, weavers and knitters required to make a jacket. What a joke.
Skyscrape was born out of a vision to create clothing so thermally comfortable that it would impact the energy used in heating and cooling buildings. To view a video of the technology, visit https://www.skyscrape.us/.
I do not know where they are located but it must be in some state where wacky weed is legal. That explains what they visualized.
This garment if it ever gets made will join the oroso garments made with aerogel and find they do not sell very well because they are as much of a hoax as is goretex and all of their copiers.
There are people spending an awful lot of money for winter jackets and there are an awful lot of people who are charlatans wanting that money. So, they conjure up schemes by inventing language that makes their non-performing products sound like they are the greatest thing, since sliced bread.
Once I was watching shark tank and a guy was there pedaling his electric outerwear. He wanted half a million to promote the electrical concept to other jacket companies but would not include his outerwear company in the deal so there was no deal. He said he was doing over one million in his garments. A liar if there ever was one.
At this time and as far into the future that you chose to look when it comes to insulations it always boils down to a choice of one; continuous filament fiberfill known as Lamilite /Climashield.
If people stop trying to make a new insulation for clothing and sleeping bags it will remove a subject from my list.
