A PHILOSOPHY OF REASON, FREEDOM, AND INDIVIDUAL OF RIGHTS
For many years I have quoted Ayn Rand in my newsletters.
Based on the present social situation I thought what she wrote so many years ago is appropriate to give thought to today.
“America was founded on “a philosophy of reason, freedom, and individual rights,” said Ayn Rand. She described the Declaration of Independence as “the greatest document in human history, both philosophically and literarily,” and she urged people to “Observe how much this nation achieved so long as it stood by the principles of the Declaration.”
Yet, Rand added, “It doesn’t follow that if someone writes the greatest political document ever, thereafter people will automatically have a good society.” America, she said, is in the grip of a moral crisis—one that only “a moral revolution can resolve. A moral revolution to sanction and complete the political achievement of the American Revolution.”
What would such a revolution look like?
It requires a movement to debunk and discredit the irrational, primitive, self-sacrificial morality of altruism—and to uphold in its place a fact-based moral code that enshrines the pursuit of happiness: rational egoism. “
My opinion Ayn Rand was the greatest mind to have ever lived.
Her books are read by people through out the world via the Ayn Rand Institute. Maybe one day the world will live as she imagined it by a philosophy of reason, freedom and individual rights. The choice is yours, it is there to have.
