RIVER RUNNER BAGS
The only bag for river runners.
I bought my first Wiggy's bag (an Ultima Thule) 1989 and have never looked back. I own several bags in different temp ranges; these things are built to last. Recently switched from the mummy style bags to the more spacious, rectangular Hunter bags, for the additional wiggle room needed for broad-shouldered, side-sleeper comfort. Over the years I have used Wiggy's bags on literally hundreds of river trips, in every kind of weather, and temperature ranges down to -20F. Wiggy's is the ONLY sleeping bag I will ever take on the river, because of its hydrophobic properties; even tested it by soaking a bag in the ice cold river, then wringing it out and crawling inside. Wet? Yes. Cold? Not for long, and slept warmth through the night, bag almost completely dry by morning from body heat. Also, a water bottle burst at the foot of my bag on a winter snowshoeing trip. Again, damp at first, but still warm, and dried out by morning! (PS: get the sleeping booties, you won't regret it!) One note: I am a bit puzzled why the dimensions here say 36x92, but with a tape measure on my floor, the Hunter Super Light comes out closer to 34x78... fwiw. Thanks, Wiggy's for over 35 years of outdoor comfort and safety.
Kev
Kev thank you for your story.
Two corrections, one sleep socks come with each bag ordered, two Kev has a hunter super light without the hood, so it is shorter than the hooded version. It is 36 inches wide.
Over these many years of manufacturing my sleeping bags as well as other insulated products all I have ever used is the Lamilite. As you know it incorporated the silicone treated continuous filament fiberfill.
It has been 40 years since Wiggy’s existed, but I started using it several years before. But it has only been since I have been selling Wiggy’s products that I have learned how well the Lamilite performs once wet. That knowledge has come to me from numerous customers such as Kev sharing.
I have published every letter [email] received over the years presenting this information because as I constantly write about the fact that all of my Lamilite insulated products are completely unfazed by water.
To some it is repetitive but there are others watching, reading my articles for the first time and if they are doing so researching for information in order to buy a Wiggy sleeping bag knowing in advance that moisture is not a detrimental factor is worthwhile information.
While the impetus of this article has come about because a river runner wrote of his experience keep in mind those of you who are winter campers you will experience moisture, but it is something you need not be concerned with since it will have no effect on your Wiggy's bag.
