STUPIDITY PERMEATES THE OUTDOOR INDUSTRY

I must be missing the boat when it comes to offering water-proof protection with breathable technology. The number of companies that offer garments using this scam just keeps increasing.

While reading the OR show magazine on line I came across an advertisement for garments sold by Timberland Company. Please note that I say sold by them versus made by them as they have these items contract sewn in or at least this one in Singapore. In any event they are offering garments made with “Dryvent”. What is DryVent is a good question since when you go to their web site it is not explained. However, they do say and I quote; “We’ve designed our waterproof jackets with the same dedication and craftsmanship. Whether you’re running to catch the subway, defying the weather on a rainy day wandering the city, or dashing between errands, you’ll stay dry in our DryVent tm waterproof technology. The outer layer repels wet weather and protects, while the inner-layer seals the jacket separating it from the outside while channeling water vapor to the outer layers where it evaporates.” They further say and I quote; “DryVent R technology provides durable, breathable, waterproof protection against all types of weather. It is exceptional waterproof, breathable technology that stays dry inside and out.” REMARKABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This same product is being used by the North Face company since both companies are owned by VF Corporation.

Maybe I should increase my sales by offering garments made with materials that do not work as they describe them in all of these ads.

Another concept being talked about is garments that are able to allow moisture out as in the case of vapor permeability. I guess after 20 years of selling fishnet underwear because they are so vapor permeable some of the marketing people in the underwear part of the industry have gotten on board.

Then of course there are the companies that offer chemicals that when added to fabric act to control the odor given off by the human body when a person is very active and sweats. I wonder if these chemicals are put on the fabrics used to make basketball uniforms, can’t give off more sweat than a basketball player. Do they ever tell each there they have body odor?

All of the items that I am referring too will be in retail stores for next summer sales to un- suspecting people.

In the mean time you will have to question the insulated stuff
