sweaty feet

Sweaty feet

Sweaty feet can cause problems for everyone, but it is more serious for diabetics.

What causes sweaty feet?

Our feet sweat because of heat and exercise, as well as stress. With other areas of the body, sweat can easily evaporate, but with feet it gets trapped between our toes and in socks and shoes. When sweat gets trapped, the bacteria that feed on our sweat release an unpleasant smell, causing foot odor or smelly feet, also known as bromodosis. This continues after we’ve removed our socks and shoes, especially if we put them in a dark place like a cupboard or drawer, where they can thrive.

  • Sweat easily gets trapped in our feet and toes
  • Wear shoes made from breathable materials, like canvas or leather. Sandals or flip-flops in the summer will help your feet breathe.
  • Don’t wear the same pair of shoes every day, so they have time to dry out.

This is a follow up to my comments made in the previous article about diabetic foot problems. I have been doing some further research and what I found that is most interesting is “wear shoes made from breathable (vapor permeable) material”.

The reason I wrote the previous article was because I read about this company in N.Y.C. that is making some sort of insert that is electrically connected that is supposed to dry the sweat. The reason the article was published I believe was because Gore is involved with them. That told me that Gore wants to put their PTFE film onto their inserts, I guess.

I am of the opinion that the incidence of foot problems has escalated since the advent of materials placed in any footwear that has been claimed as waterproof and breathable. A fact of reality is; these materials are glued into the footwear and DO NOT ALLOW ANY MOISTURE OUT regardless of what they say in their advertisements.

If I am correct that Gore is working on putting their film on these inserts that will mean retention of moisture. Also, the article stated that the price for these electrically charged inserts will sell for $100.00 a pair. Keep in mind by incorporating a heating device will only make feet sweat more. Feet are in an enclosed area, a shoe of some sort or fashion and that has the film in it will NOT LET THE MOISTURE OUT!!! The problem will not be alleviated but further propagate the foot problem one has why; because the moisture is trapped in the footwear.

As I have written if you want to alleviate foot problems you must wear on your feet socks that will NOT trap any moisture and they are Lamilite socks. As for footwear, sure you can wear my boots; 10 inch or chukka which have Lamilite in them but you can wear as I already know any footwear that does not have a Gore film or any other brand of film in them and then the moisture WILL move out of the shoe or boot if you are wearing Lamilite socks.

I wonder how much longer it is going to take Gore and the rest of the outdoor industry to own up to a fact that they already know: WATERPROOF AND BREATHABLE FOOTWEAR AND RAINWEAR DOES NOT NOR HAS IT EVER EXISTED. Until the merchants of these materials or finished garments voluntarily stop the sales of these products people with foot problems who wear shoes with these films will have moist, smelly feet that will be prone to infections. Diabetics will suffer even more than they do now. And of course people will as I see it be bilked out of their money why; because they will be purchasing products that do not function or perform as they are advertised to do.

I do not understand selling bogus products to the very people who make it possible to pay your bills your customers. For years I have basically walked from people who want a sleeping bag of a certain weight and pack size to fit in their backpack. Once they tell me the temperature rating they want I tell them what I have and then they say how small does it compress too. I now know that I could sell them a bag that will fit in the pack, but I also know they will not be very happy campers because the bag will not work for them at the temperature they want it for. So I lose a sale but I sleep at night knowing that I have not sold someone a bill of goods that is a lie.

Honesty is the best policy and I will never compromise my integrity as the whole of the outdoor industry has with their NON-FUNCTIONING WATERPROOF BREATHABLE B/S!!!
