the 50 year scam

ANOTHER PART OF THE GORETEX SCAM

When gore started selling the goretex they professed the fabric laminated to the film was now waterproof and breathable (not that it is true), but the garments had seams. The seams had to be seam taped to keep the outside rainwater from getting into the garment. Here is where the next part of the scam comes into play.

I guess there was seam taping material used 50 years ago so gore had customers buying the seam taping material and putting it over seams. However, gore got into the seam tape machine manufacturing business as well as the business of making seam tape. The machines are leased to their customers the seam tape is sold to the customer. The customer had no choice but to use gore seam tape.

I use seam tape which is one layer of a film and the cost is about $0.10 per yard. But gore adhered a layer of nylon tricot to the film which increased the price significantly. That cost I do not know but I would not be surprised if it were $0.50 per yard or higher. I do not know why they have always put the tricot on it except to raise the price. They will tell you it is to make it stronger which it does, but it is unnecessary.

The initial scam is the making of a waterproof and breathable fabric which is costly. To ad insult to injury they lease you their seam tape machine and they sell you their seam tape.

This is a very costly materials and machinery to manufacture an end product that does not work at all.

I wonder if any of the gore licensees resent this situation? If, they do not then any respect I might have for one of these companies is gone. In reality I lost all respect of any and all companies that have chosen to use goretex materials.

I do believe that all of the companies who use goretex materials KNOW that they do not work. They may have thought they worked early on but have soon come to know they do not work. In the last 10 years as an example many companies have chosen to use goretex materials even though they knew at that moment in time the material didn’t work but they chose to get on the gravy train. At that moment in time they decided to willingly know they were screwing their paying customers by offering the lying information that they had a product that worked which incorporated the goretex material.

So, each and every company that offers products that utilized the goretex material becomes coconspirators in the sale of any and all products that utilize goretex. It doesn’t stop with the manufacturers but it is further extended to the retailers who, trust me, who go to the highest levels of the companies, such as the CEO’s of REI and LL BEAN know that goretex is a sham but I believe blatantly refuse to recognize the facts. They like Cabelas and their parent BASS PRO, and DICK’S as well as every other smaller retailer in the country know as well it is bogus.

The reason I know that they know goretex does not work is because so many of my customers have voiced their opinions to retail stores around the country, which they have told me.

I believe if you attach any employee of the gore company and that includes bobby and all of his family to a lie detector machine the truth would come out stating that they know their product does not work.

I think the time has come that all companies finally become truthful with the people who spend their money with them. Our government has stepped in the automobile business requiring the auto makers disclose numerous facts about the automobiles they sell. This also includes used cars. The food industry has been for years required to also disclose information about the food products that are available to us in food stores.

The outdoor industry has been left to police itself. When it comes to sleeping bags, I do not believe any company selling what I consider “no sleep sleeping bags” has ever used them. I do know they never present guidelines for their use. When I started Wiggy’s I wrote that the temperature rating was based on two basic factors; being in a tent or closed area and being on a ground pad. Use of the bag under the stars was not included. No other company before me or since has offered this type of information.

I also build my bags with insulation that will provide comfort below the temperature designation I assign my bags. I believed then and I still believe that a sleeping bag is the most important item you take with you when you go into the bush. The proof of my statement of my bags performing below the temperature rating I assign them was the test done by the Air Force in a cold chamber at Eielson AFB, Alaska. They tested the survival kit I have provided the Air Force for the B-52’s as well as all of their bombers and fighters. The cold chamber was supposedly set for -40 degrees F, but it turned out the testers were in -60 degrees F for 5 hours.

I do not get out these days as I did years ago, but when I did, I was able to experience temperatures from summertime conditions to -30 degrees F. That camping experience started in the military then my boat and eventually back on land initially in the Smokey Mountains and then in the Rockies mostly wintertime hunting. The time frame was about 40 years. When I put temperature ratings on my bags it was because I used them and learned about their capabilities. That does not happen in the industry today.

When it comes to clothing these companies change styles every season, that is every 6 months, so they do not know if what they say about their product is true or not. the only garment that remains the same is the NON-FUNCTIONING GORETEX RAIN GEAR. The reason I know the non-functioning rain gear and other products that are made with goretex do not work is because they have not ever attempted to defend themselves against my statements about their product not working.

The only way they and all of their cohorts, (manufactures and retailers) are held accountable to the people who spend money with them.

To the general public the ball is now in your court, what will you do with it?
