THE MARINE CORPS, THE COMFORTER AND A NEW PRODUCT

Posted by

FOLLOWUP ON MY COMPLAINT TO THE INSPECTOR GENERAL AT SOLDIER SYSTEMS COMMAND IN QUANTICO, VA. ABOUT THE MUKLUK FIASCO

I wrote today asking for an update on the report. What follows is the response.

Good afternoon sir,

I apologize if you have received several emails from me. I am currently out of the office on official travel and connectivity is not the best.

We are finalizing your complaint and once we complete the process, we will forward a closure letter to you. The IG office does not provide the report since it contains sensitive information not for release. I expect to be back in the office on/about 10 February 2020. If you have any questions the best way to reach me is by email and I will respond soonest.

Thank you for contacting Marine Corpse Systems Command, Command Inspector General's Office.

The last time I wrote I was told a delay might occur due to a need to be in the hospital I believe. So much for excuses.

What I find comical is the need to not make the report public. What is the sensitive information being alluded to when it deals with an insulated footwear product? Can it be outdoor research has developed a new insulating material specifically for use by the Marine Corpse? And as such they do not even want to put it in their own products yet.

Seems a lame excuse to me, because I believe as they have shown they do not want to divulge anything to me after 6 months. Why (?) because they do not know how to protect those involved in the way the solicitation was handled from the very beginning.

It is my contention that those involved were not necessarily truthful with the IG and the IG probably knows that, but what can the IG do? Ultimately placate me with some sort of gibberish response.

Nothing will have changed with respect to the solicitation. The Muk Luks have been made and delivered to the Marine Corps for use in the field. I expect they will have worked for the marines who were issued them over their goretex thinsulate boots and moisture absorbing wool socks. All at a cost of $202.89 per pair as well as a shipping charge from the west coast to the east coast. Versus had they allowed me to bid it would have been $150.00 per pair delivered to the east coast. And they are a far better Muk Luk than outdoor research makes. Also, mine were tested last winter by Natick labs and were extremely successful as the Wiggy Muk Luk has been since about 1990.

So, I await the final response when ever they can agree on what to tell me that they believe will placate me.

RETURN OF THE COMFORTER

I am happy to report that Mr. Willis apologized to me. He wrote that his bed was the problem and that he slept comfortably in his home with the windows open and the temperature was 40 degrees. The result of his latest experience is that he is keeping the comforter.

I responded to him saying his apology is accepted and a thank you. Since he said he had other Wiggy products I can only hope that he continues to be a customer.
