another joker with an insulation?

VARIOUS COMPANIES IN THE TEXTILE BUSINESSE SRTIVING TO MAKE INSULATIONS FOR JACKETS PRIMARILY AND THIS COMPANT STARTED IN GERMANY ABOUT 1850 OR SO IS THE LATEST TO OFFER WHAT HAS BEEN AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET PLACE AS LONG AS I HAVE BEEN IN THE BUSINESS. THEY ARE A JOKE.

Two additions to Freudenberg’s thermal insulation range

27/10/2023

Performance materials developer Freudenberg has added two new thermal insulation products for apparel to its comfortemp range.

I have some 8 or 10 years ago communication with this company because I read about them having a “new” insulating material. They sent a sample to me from Germany. Having received it I called their representative in the states, NYC I believe. It was a chopped staple fiberfill batting, a product I could get if I wanted it from maybe 10 fiberfill processors in the USA. my unsolicited advice was to look at selling other products they produce.

Since they are a German based company, they probably sell to European jacket makers. Aside from reading about this “new” product I have no knowledge of their ”comfort range” of insultions.

The new products Down Feel WA 150LB and Fireball WB 400LB, are made from low-level Bisphenol A recycled PET fibres. Freudenberg has described them as “high-quality alternatives to down”.

These “new” products are not bonded either spray or low melt so they are unadulterated and therefore as soft as down equaling the “down feel” which is not unusual.

It said Down Feel WA 150LB was “an extremely lightweight, loose fibre thermal insulation with a super-light loft”. It presented Fireball WB 400LB (pictured) as using “clusters of extra-fine fibres to offer optimal breathability, maximum comfort, and minimal clumping after washing and drying”.

In this paragraph they acknowledge it is “loose fiber” attesting to its softness. They say lots of how it potentially will perform but they ignore in the article that it must be quilted to either shell or lining in order to use it.

Having done that the optimal breathability, and comfort are compromised because the fibers are compressed together as a result of quilting. Minimal clumping when washed becomes maximum clumping, I have seen this for years with chopped staple fiber. Dupont sold their hollow bond 2 for use unbonded and it lasted a couple of years in jackets because when washed the clumping was problematic. Nothing will change with this product.

Primaloft which is a low melt fiberfill product will also deteriorate in laundering.

It is significantly easier to make chopped staple fiber and sell it for batting purposes so these companies have to dream verbiage to sell their garbage product [s].
