Your Legacy Will Live On

Jerry,

I thoroughly enjoyed your latest chapter. Your clothing line has made a huge difference in my life and I'm sure thousands of other folks would say the same thing. Even my dog Tank, a pit bull mix, has benefited from your Lamilite jacket. He used to shiver uncontrollably in the snow, and after five or ten minutes, he'd start whimpering to get back into the warm house. Needless to say, the pit bull breed is not designed for subzero temperatures. However, after I put the dog jacket on him, he and I could stay out in the snow for an hour with no problems. He's nine years old, and for the time we have left together, we can enjoy long walks in any season thanks to your products. You have improved our quality of life, and I'm grateful I discovered your amazing products so many years ago. Thank you.

– Rob Merlo

This morning when I sat down at my computer to write tonight’s newsletter, I noticed the above testimonial. I do not know when it was posted but I am sure recently.

Rob, letters like yours keep me going, many thanks to you for your kind words.

NOW FOR THE ARTICLE

The following statement comes from my last newsletter.

I stand by my statement “if you are going into a cold environment of ANY temperature let me dress you so you will have the maximum comfort.”

Obviously, people have been dressing for thousands of years for cold weather. People living in arctic environments have existed very successfully.

However modern man has not done so because they have not studied for the most part how best to dress for arctic conditions taking into consideration the most important aspect of the human to deal with. And it makes all the difference in the world how to deal with it. The condition I am referring to is human produced moisture.

I have written about this for years. And I keep seeing people being misled by fashion marketing companies spouting how great their clothing is and how it will keep you warm and dry. All of these companies could care less because they are only concerned with fashion, style that will be eye catching, and when they claim performance, they lie knowingly or unknowingly. Is it any wonder those who go after the pot of gold offered by the producers of the Alone program. Here is a list of the clothing items they want you to take.

I will put in my comments in the list they have.

These items include a pair of high-leg hunting boots [okay], a pair of waterproof Arctic winter boots [WIGGY’S OVER BOOTS OR MUKLUKS IN PLACE OF THE SO CALLED WINTER OVER BOOTS] , a single T-shirt [A FISHNET TOP] , a shirt (made of fleece/wool), 2 sweaters (made of wool, fleece, or cotton) [LAMILITE LINER VEST, LAMILITE LINER JACKET], 6 pairs of woolen socks [TWO PAIRS OF 13 INCH LAMILITE SOCKS], 2 hats (brimmed, wool, fur, Arctic or baseball) LAMILITE BALACLAVA AND INSULATED HEADCOVER, 2 buffs or neck gaiter (no balaclavas) [MY BALACLVA IS DIFFERENT THAN THE ONE THEY REJECT., a shemagh or scarf [ I can make a Lamilite scarf], 4 pairs of gloves[ 1 PAIR WIGGY’S SUPER MITTS], 2 pairs of underwear or briefs FISHNET BOTTOMS AS WELL AS A PAIR OF BREIFS], an insulated parka-style jacket, 2 pair of outdoor pants/bibs (can unzip into shorts)[ THE PARKA SHOULD BE A WIGGY’S PARKA THAT I WOULD MAKE FOR ANY CONTESTANT] , a pair of fully insulated or waterproof winter pants/bibs, a waterproof un-insulated shell/Jacket, 2 pairs of thermal underwear (long top and bottom), and a pair of gaiters. [ HERE I RECOMMENDTWO PAIR OF JEANS AND THE LEG JACKETS AS WELL AS OUR GAITERS WITH THE INSULATION].

I have listed all of the Lamilite products that would immensely improve the life of the contestants because none of my products attract moisture.

The Alone producers are uneducated in the materials used to make cold weather clothing as are the companies who make the clothing they suggest being used. Everybody should know that human moisture is the initial enemy of humans. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to dress in clothing that does the most the allow the moisture to follow the best path away from the skin surface. Fishnet underwear is the first layer. The second layer is the liner vest and the third layer the liner jacket. You will move more easily than you could wearing a fleece garment or sweater. These knitted fabric garments constrict movement plus they stifle the movement of moisture [they absorb it] which when staying in the garment draws heat from you causing you to chill. The materials I use for these garments is vapor permeable, so it does not stifle the movement of your perspiration while still in the vapor state. Hence you are dry and warm.

I know there are companies that claim to make arctic winter boots, but they don’t exist. Using the over boots or mukluks over your high leg hunting boots will provide 40 f below 0 protection. Adding the Lamilite socks certainly helps, your feet stay warm and dry.

I saw on the program a guy with animal skin arctic mittens, not even close to my super mitts.

You know about my fishnets.

I also believe my balaclava will easily outperform a wool hat and certainly the insulated headcover would be unmatched in a severe blow.

There are no parkas in the world of mine. If a contestant calls, I’ll make one for them.

Leg jackets with my parka will outperform bibs. And insulated gaiter’s which is necessary to keep blood flow going into your feet warm.

The important facts to remember when you are venturing into the bush is that you are wearing clothing that does not inhibit YOUR moisture from flowing away from you, so you never experience the chill effect and number two is the make sure all parts of your body are keeping the blood flowing through insulated areas. Wearing the head covers keeps the blood in your head the blood coming in and then back to the heart warm.

Have you thought about the need to keep your blood flowing to your hands and feet primarily, in order for that to happen these extremities they must be warm, if not the body reduces the flow, so they get colder than they were. When I was lost, I never gave thought to the blood flow in my body because I was warm. Today, I realize how fortunate I was because I was insulated from head to foot with Lamilite.

Of course, in a worst case scenario you could always just get in your Wiggy’s sleeping bag and wait comfortably for the rescue party to show up.
