AN UNEXPECTED LETTER

Wiggy:

We need to source several sleeping bags for long range, unsupported special operations deployment. We must have a quick release center zip capability.

We have been very disappointed with the Snugpack Special Forces Bag. Frankly it is civilian grade garbage. In addition to generally inferior quality for the robust stresses of extended deployment, the zipper jams easily on the zipper baffle. To clarify, the zippers often jam when first zipping up and/or adjusting zipper containment for temperature control. Thus if a partially zipped bag requires immediate exit and the zipper jams on the baffle during "up-stroke" of the zipper to actuate the quick release--the bag jams and there is no quick release function. We have had to cut our way out of bags.

However your loft system appears to have merit, offsetting other aspects of wool liability such as weight and slow to dry. Your Military copy, center zip bag appears to have merit. We have no experience with your bag to date. Our concern about baffle jams need satisfied please.

Can you rapidly provide quantity 10 bags for rapid cash purchase?

It appears that your Military bag with more loft may be start point for your considerations.

Size: Regular height soldier, however often fully clothed including boots (for immediate contact capability). Clothing often damp and sometimes wet due to limited clothing change inventory. High Abrasion resistance needed. Robust capability, no gimmicks more important than light weight. Best color is mid way between Olive Drab and Coyote Brown. Second choice is Olive Drab.

Standing by,

Thank you

JH (spec ops)

The above comment I hear from people who are military or civilian about all other brands of sleeping bags is common. The performance of my products is a testament to Climashield the primary ingredient of Lamilite which is available to virtually every company in the world that makes not only sleeping bags but outerwear as well. And I have on many occasions told all sleeping bag manufacturing or marketing companies that I would be happy to sell them the Lamilite so they too could make a quality product. To date I have had no takers. Such is life.

ANOTHER ARTICLE FROM ANOTHER GENIUS WHO KNOWS ABOUT CLOTHING FOR USE BY HUNTERS

In the latest issue of American Hunter Magazine the managing editor Jon Draper wrote glowingly about various garments that have the promise of keeping one warm in literally all weather conditions. Unfortunately the 1,000,000 or so readers of this magazine have no more knowledge of materials than Jon, which in his case is zero.

The title of the article in the October 2017 issue is “FIT TO HUNT FROM THE INSIDE OUT”.

He correctly states the dangers of being wet, that is your skin surface being wet and then goes on to talk about what is out there that will allow all of the body produced moisture, sweat, to get away from you so you stay dry. He does point out that many garments actually trap that moisture. And he then goes on to and I quote; “the properties of an effective base layer are twofold: insulation and moisture removal”.

He then gives an example of a fiber blend used to make a fabric which is used to make a garment for this base layer that incorporates and I quote; “merino wool and the insulating magic of Primaloft”. What would magic is if the primaloft actually did keep you warm. In this situation primaloft is selling their polyester fiber to the company that is blending it with the wool to make yarn. This is no different than any wool polyester fiber bland. Warmth is not a part of the product, but retention of moisture is. The garments that are made from this material are closely knitted undershirts, prime garments to trap moisture.

He them talks about Cocona 37.5 volcanic sand and activated carbon from coconut shells embedded in the yarns that removes sweat. He they are pulling out all the stops as to how to get rid of sweat. How about fishnet underwear clown?

His second subject is “mid-weight garments”. Generally these garments are using Gore-Tex, terrific!!! And of course the material they talk about for insulation is primaloft.

The last layer he talks about is titled “ELEMENT BUSTERS” which refers to the cold weather layer. And of course all of these layers are utilizing Gore-Tex and primaloft. It was in this section that I read about the pnuma garments. In any event he believes that his collection of garments and good for temperatures from bow season to late winter season hunting.

I am positive this fellow has not used these products in the various conditions that he is talking about. It is pathetic that someone who has as little knowledge as he has and he has lots of company who also spout off with their little if any knowledge of materials and how they perform. He and all the rest are just pawns for the companies like gore.
