DID NIKE SCREWUP?

The following quote comes directly from the nike web site. It is what they have published I guess for as long as they have been selling the “zoon vaporfly 4%” running shoe?

“Built to meet the exacting needs of world-class marathoners, Nike Vaporfly 4% Flyknit is designed for record-breaking speed. The Flyknit upper delivers breathable support, while the responsive foam and full-length plate provide incredible energy return for all 26.2”

I am only guessing but I think the 26.2 may be a reference to the length of a marathon.

The “flyknit” upper may or may not deliver much of any support and does it really breath, no because the fabric is not alive. Is it vapor permeable yes, but if you are wearing wool socks the moisture from your feet would have to be driven out of the socks before it can go through the fabric. However, the foam will more than likely absorb any moisture from your feet that gets to it. And lastly the statement “incredible energy return” is absurd. Anyone regardless of their conditioning running a marathon DOES NOT GET ANY ENERGY RETURNED TO THEM!!!

Nike reworks Vaporfly after marathon feedback

Nike has updated its 'fastest shoe', the Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% , after feedback from athletes suggested the shoe retained too much water in wet conditions.

Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next% has an upper made from Vaporweave rather than Flyknit (after water weighed down Shalane...”

The partial article I have reprinted from the “Sportstextiles” on line magazine I receive almost daily. Unfortunately I could not read the entire article since it is restricted to paying recipients of the e mails. Some of the articles are free.

Having not been able to read the article I looked for an explanation of “vaporweave” fabric and could find none. Also having not read the article I do not know who Shalane is, but I guess Shalane is a prominent marathon runner. It is not a sport that I give any attention too. Shalane must not be very strong if weighed down by moisture retention in running shoes.

When I was in basic training after the first couple of days we had some exercises imposed on us. One was running a measures mile in our just issued not yet broken in combat boots. Keep in mind we were 18 to 22 years old. A few of those guys ran the mile in about 4 minutes give or take a few seconds. Imagine how well they might have done if there were wearing todays running shoes. That was 1963. No, I was not one of them that ran it close to 4 minutes, maybe 7 or 8.

These nike running shoes are $250.00 or more from what I saw on the internet.

Nike is a multibillion dollar company and as such might want to spend some of that money doing adequate research into making footwear that may have the ability to allow moisture to escape easily. Of course what they will discover I suspect they already know they will never accomplish the task. So what do they do, they dream up language to sell their footwear and when it fails as has the “vaporfly 4% flyknit designed for record breaking speed” has done. So they are changing to “vapor weave” which will solve the problem or they will say. Mr. and Mrs. Nike and all the ships at sea, the problem you have or as Shalane have, experienced will be with you for ever as gore has learned not that they will ever stop lying about their product.

Did nike screw up I do not think so I think they thought they could as all the footwear companies do in my opinion and that is screw the general public with expensive no performing as advertised footwear.

A friend of mine told me the person Shalane might be Shalane Flanagan a world class runner. Even world class runners have sweaty feet. Now we can wait for nike to produce a running shoe for her that she will claim keeps her feet dry so she can run faster because she is not carrying the weight of water in her running shoes.

The quality of the running shoes might be of the same quality as those that Zion Williams was wearing; who knows. Of course they do not stress quality but quantity. The longer a shoe lasts the less chance you are to replace it, not good for publicly traded companies.

Once again as I see it, it always boils down to how much money each style shoe will earn us!!!
