more reasons to buy and own Lamilite socks

In Scouting for over 25 years -finally retired - remember lots of 0-5-degree nights near nekked in a Wiggy’s bag that kept me toasty all night in a summer nylon tent. Also a lot of winter 'campouts' in the military/National Guard that kept me toasty. Used the issued bag open as a pad until I got a Wiggy’s pad. THANK YOU. Now 71 battling cold feet from agent orange Type 2 diabetes and need warmer feet for winter -CW4 Walusiak -retired

SOCKS AND THE MILITARY

Are you in the military? If so, you have been issued probably wool socks to be worn in you issue boots that have goretex and thinsulate that are supposed to keep your feet warm during the winter months. If this were that case, all of the civilians wearing the same sock boot combination would have warm feet. But sadly that is not the case.

Every civilian that I know or whom I have spoken with tells me the very same story “they have cold feet” and no matter the boot they buy it’s always the same end result “cold feet”.

If the whole world of outdoors men and women have cold feet wearing the boots sold today that contain goretex and thinsulate in the civilian marketplace why would these same boots that are made with goretex and thinsulate issued to men and women in the military be any different? The answer to the question I have just posed is that they too, the soldiers have cold feet.

I find it hard to believe that these boot companies are not contacted by consumers who are at the least disappointed with the performance of the boots that were purchased not keeping their feet warm. I can’t imagine that retail stores aren’t contacted by their customers expressing the same complaint.

Actually I know these companies do get these complaints because I once called Wolverine Worldwide and asked if a particular model goretex thinsulate had a temperature rating to it. I wrote this up after the conversation. The woman I spoke with in customer service looked in the literature they had and was surprised that they did not have a temperature- rating for the boots. She put me on hold to ask one of their product engineers and the answer she received from him and related it to me was basically this.

They had been sued because someone using boots made by Wolverine Worldwide that had a temperature rating did not perform at the rating and from that point on, they ended putting temperature ratings on their boots. The reasoning she told me was based on use. One person uses the boot outside for one hour and someone else for 5 hours. If you are out in zero- degree weather for one hour and a boot with a zero-degree rating is used for one hour I guess you are okay, but the same boot in the same conditions for 5 hours is not okay, as in cold feet. I do not know any of the facts other than the fact that the people involved had cold feet. There may have been more to it. But if all it was, was a customer having probably very cold feet while wearing the boots in temperatures higher than the advertised temperature that should have told the company management that what they were selling had to be further examined. But that was not to be, their solution was to simply end the practice of temperature rating the boots. Now the customer was on his/her own to figure out what was best to wear in the boot? Today the answer to the question is obvious; LAMILITE SOCKS!!! They will to a point of I believe 0 degrees off set the goretex thinsulate non-sensical combination. Below 0 degrees you will need the over boots!!!

Why do the Lamilite socks work so well, it is because of the fabrics used to make them.

The shell and lining fabrics are what we use for the sleeping bags which are VAPOR PERMEABLE. The Lamilite insulation is VAPOR PERMEABLE.

That means when your feet give off moisture in the form of a VAPOR it moves very quickly through the fabrics to the inside of the boot.

Are you boot manufacturers who happen to read my articles reading this one, you should so your geniuses who have a love affair with gore and 3-m can learn something.

If the boots do not have the goretex and thinsulate in them the moisture WILL move as a VAPOR into the leather where it will condense and be absorbed. Once absorbed any water from outside the boot wanting to get into the boot will have to displace the water already in the leather and that will not happen.

The nylon fabric touching your foots skin surface will warm up very quickly to the temperature of your feet and when it reaches the temperature of each foot the nylon fabric will no longer actively absorb heat. Now if you happen to be wearing a wool sock the wool will NEVER reach the temperature of your skin surface and of course the moisture that has been absorbed by the wool will also NEVER be the same as your skin surface temperature, so, each of these entities the wool and the moisture will simply continue to absorb the heat from your skin surface and the result IS that you will HAVE COLD FEET.

The last paragraph is for the benefit of those who believe in thick wool socks and those in the business of making and selling thick wool socks. It is also for the benefit of those who are skeptical about making the investment in Wiggy’s Lamilite socks. You now know why it is an investment. Like all products we make they are all an investment because they last so long.

Maybe if these boot guys show some fortitude they will walk from gore and 3-m.

This morning it was 14 degrees and I returned to my Lamilite socks and have had warm comfortable feet all day.
